I had a question about ltr wealthy pensioner visa .

Do they count the covered call etf dividend payments like qqqi (since they are ROC) until your cost basis is down to zero .

Is providing brokerage statement sufficient? I am planning to retire in few years so trying to start planning from now .
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around whether covered call ETF dividends are counted as income for the LTR wealthy pensioner visa in Thailand, especially when these dividends are categorized as Return of Capital (ROC). Comments suggest that while some countries may treat these payments as income distributions, Thai authorities may require conventional income reporting such as federal tax returns. Providing brokerage statements, particularly 1099 forms, is recommended to verify income sources. It's advised to ultimately consult the BOI for definitive guidance.

I did my LTR last year, in the United States. They used my federal tax returns to verify passive income and seems fairly knowledgeable. Return of Capital wouldn't get reported as income. The Thai officials did count withdrawals from a regular IRA as passive income.

At least in Australia they are considered as income distributions. I prefer the ones that don’t sacrifice all the capital gains so designed not to reach zero.

By my and AI assistance I will have a running yield of 8.18% with a drawdown of 8% that will allow me to cover 65K monthly payment and $600 AUD spare cash at home.

Going to be a long term project for me to get income coverage for a visa upgrade considering my house loan is not considered as an asset in Thailand.

The covered call income will show up on the 1099 from your brokerage as income. You should provide your 1099’s supporting the source of your income as shown on your tax return.

Doug Mann Not if it is reported as "Return of Capital".

Have the dividends go to the money market account portion in your brokerage account … then at the end of each month withdraw the dividends and move them to your checking account so that it matches the dividends from the previous month. The statements show dividends paid even it it was roc! That is your audit trail… then it shows you are living off of the dividends received. The accounts will match up… each month you get a dividend distribution… it states it every month on the statement…

You would be better asking this of the BOI directly to get the definitive answer, they're very responsive. But I would think that counts as passive income even though it's partially a return of capital.
