TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus is that the 800,000 THB required for a retirement visa extension does not need to originate from outside Thailand, except in specific circumstances. While some immigration offices may enforce a policy requiring proof that the funds have come from abroad during initial visa applications, this is often not necessary for the one-year extension if the applicant entered Thailand with a Non-Immigrant O visa. Members highlighted the importance of referencing police orders related to extension requirements when dealing with differing opinions at immigration offices.

only when you apply for the initial 90 days Non-Imm-O visa inside Thailand, the 800,000 THB must have come from abroad (at least on most Immigration offices who follow the related police order). However if you entered on a Non-Imm-O visa which you got issued outside of Thailand, and apply for the 1-year extension of the stay permit, you don't need such a proof
