I know that when moving from 800,000b to monthly income I need 12/13 months of statements from my Thai bank to confirm money into the account ( 65000b or above ) each month. But do I also need 12/13 months of statements from my uk bank showing the money coming out , to confirm it is an international transfer ?
Answer summary
When switching from the 800,000 baht method to a monthly income verification (65,000 baht), it's crucial to provide statements from your Thai bank showing international transfers. Generally, Thai immigration does not require UK bank statements; they primarily focus on the Thai bank's records. However, whether or not UK statements are needed can depend on the specific immigration officer you encounter. Some officers may appreciate seeing additional proof, such as UK statements, especially if there are concerns about the sources of funds. It's advisable to have these statements available just in case, but the Thai bank's documentation confirming the deposits as international transfers is typically sufficient.

Although several people have answered that the UK statements are not required, the real answer is maybe yes, maybe no, as it truly depends on the whim of the immigration officer who deals with your case. Last year, I switched back to the monthly income method after several years of using the 800K method and the immigration office in Ubon Ratchathani wanted to see proof of where the money came from. Oddly, they wouldn’t overtly ask for those statements, but when I offered them as proof, they were very happy. Apparently, some unscrupulous individuals may have been playing a bit of a shell game and transferring the same money back and forth to fake the 65K monthly income.

Stephen Kading you can recycle the 65k if you wish as after it arrives as an international transfer you are free to use it as you wish

OP
Stephen Kading thank you for clearing that up ….. when I spoke to the immigration officer in Buri Ram I thought that he was saying that I need to show where the money came from …. Now I wasn’t one hundred % sure whether he ment uk bank statements showing money coming out that corresponded with money into my Thai bank … or just a letter from my Thai bank confirming international transfers …..

Anthony Lawson as long as you checked the "for long term visa" box with Wise you are fine. If not then it will show as a local transfer. Don't forget that you still have to show that after you got your stamp last year that your bank balance stayed at bt800k for three months after you got your stamp, and then for the rest of the year never dropped below bt400k. That requirement still applies when you are changing to the monthly method. If not, then technically you were on overstay as soon as your bank balance dropped below those amounts.

There is a code in your bank book showing the type of transfer get a 12-13 month statement and a letter from your bank proving your account

OP
Bob D'Andrea so at the Thai bank on day of my extension I will need my bank book updating , 13 months of statements and a letter confirming 13 monthly deposits into my account from overseas ( international transfers ) ?

No. They will use the statements to check that all 12 months of transfers arrived in your thai bank account as overseas transfers, if they don't you need to get proof from the bank they entered Thailand via.

They will also use the statements to check you honoured the terms of your current extension so they need to go back beyond the date you obtained that extension

got ya….. so….. I’ve already transfered money into my Thai bank from my uk bank…. The code is 5 letters that make absolutely no sense…. So I take it I need to go to my bank ( krungthai ) and ask them what the letters mean , and that the letters actually mean money transfer from overseas…. ( I don’t want to transfer money into my Thai account for 13 months just for immigration to say that the codes that krungthai bank have supplied on my statement don’t mean overseas deposit )

Anthony Lawson how do you transfer your money because if you use Wise you need to select that it will show as an international transfer on receipt in your Thai bank account?

Anthony Lawson Historically Wise have used K-bank as their correspondent bank in Thailand.. so payments destined for any other Thai bank go via K-bank first.. and are then forwarded on to the receiving bank.. hence K-bank receive it as an 'international' transfer but the final Thai bank receive it as a local transfer and often code it as such.. if this should occur you should ask your Thai bank for a letter confirming the deposits were all in fact overseas transfers.. and this is accepted by immigration.. but if you bank with K-bank there should be no need for it 😉

Anthony Lawson don’t worry about codes. Ask your bank if they shown as overseas transfer and you need for a long term visa. In the end they will give another paper, besides statements, that will verify it. FYI…KBank statements in Thai are marked “ธุรกรรมตางประเทศ” (foreign transactions). Maybe take a look at your statements in Thai. My statement in English say “trade finance” instead

OP
Graham Seal yeh … Monzo use Wise for international transfers…. And the money goes into my Thai bank with the code xbsdt…. These 5 letters don’t mean a thing to me ….. ( if there was an “it” .. international transfers… in there I’d be happier) . I read somewhere , where someone transfered for 12 months , went to immigration and asked to go onto monthly income , and the codes didn’t indicate international transfer … so he had to start all over again… I just don’t want that happening to me …..

nope. Thai immigration could care less about your UK bank, they only care about your Thai bank and whether or not the transfers are marked as international in that bank
