Dear All. Need advise on the O-A visa. To show the financial evidence of the bank statements, does this need to be my country of residence bank account or a thai bank account. I had been reading different information regarding this.

1. Financial evidence showing monthly income of no less than 65,000 THB or having the current balance of 800,000 THB (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, proof of earnings)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The O-A visa application requires financial evidence, and applicants can use a bank account from their home country to satisfy the financial requirements. Specifically, proof of monthly income of at least 65,000 THB or a bank balance of 800,000 THB can be presented using a bank account in the applicant's name, regardless of whether it's in Thailand or their country of residence. However, once in Thailand and for subsequent visa extensions, having a Thai bank account may become necessary to meet ongoing financial requirements.

Thanks all for the input. I am going to apply for the O-A visa which allow multiple entry into Thailand which valid for one year. I am doing this application in my home country Thai embassy. So its clear that i just need to use my home country bank account for submission for applying the O-A visa.

I used my home in the USA bank was fine showing 3 months worth of income. Is it true you only need to show the nessary income in your bank. Or 800,000 bt. In thai bank. Is the bank account still nessary in Thailand to get 1 year extension? My biggest hold up has been my rap sheet from FBI. They told me it will take 58 days. Then later found out I could have submitted it online. Which would have taken less than a week.

A visa or extension received from Immigration will require a Thai bank account where there are financial requirements unless your Embassy still provides the income affidavit. Visas obtained from Embassies outside Thailand with financial requirements just require the funds in a bank account in your name anywhere.

You don't need then FBI rap sheet. You can get finger printed at agencies like AAA and and others and you will get a police criminal report from your state

This was a long time ago, 2017, but I went to a nearby UPS store for my criminal record. They took my fingerprints and and sent them to, I think, a California law enforcement agency. I got a record sent to me at my home address in a week. It satisfied the Thai LA consulate for my OA visa.

This is the advantage of an OA Visa is that you can have the funds anywhere. In particular you'll have a one year Visa which will make it very easy to open a bank account once you get to Thailand and then transfer your funds into your Thai bank account to get the extension for year 3, assuming you did a well timed border bounce just before your Visa expired and your insurance was extended near the end of year one.

The financial part of the O-A is "the only advantage". The rest of the requirements sucks big time.

some people are adverse to putting any money in a Thai bank account so they believe the Non-OA is the solution for them (personally I don't agree)

I agree, but when/if they're extending the stay in Thailand,they will still need a Thai bank account.

they max out the two years then return home for a new Non-OA

I used my Navy Federal Credit Union account in the U.S. to satisfy my verification of funds for my OA visa.

and many people do that by getting up to 2 years stay from their Non-OA then not getting an extension but going "home" and returning on a new Non-OA for another 2 years

@Graham *****
And no need for a Thai bank account!

@Jim *****
exactly unless you choose to open one for convenience

were you able to get the extension with NFCU?

@Bigd *********
No, you have to have the money in a Thai bank account for proof of funds for the extension in Thailand. The only time you use your home country bank account is for the initial visa you apply for online from the Thai Embassy in your country.

no, he is talking about the OA, it is you who doesn’t understand this thread. The question was about obtaining an extension of the OA, this can only be done with funds in a Thai bank account.

getting a second year out of an OA is NOT getting an extension. You are not extending anything, you are merely utilizing the OA to maximize your stay. You need to under stand the terminology. An extension of an OA requires funds in a Thai bank account.

I was talking about the OA. That’s what I have. I think maybe you misread what I was saying.

Any bank account as long as it's in your sole name.
