Do I need to have money in a Thai bank for the OA visa or its extension?

Please confirm that with an OA visa you do not need money in a Thai bank. Just proof you have either the 800k or the monthly 65k in a bank offshore. Cheers

TLDR : Answer Summary
The OA visa does not require you to have money in a Thai bank initially; proof of funds in an offshore account is sufficient, meeting the requirement of either 800,000 THB in a bank or a monthly income of 65,000 THB. However, to apply for an extension within Thailand, you will need to demonstrate that you have the required funds in a Thai bank. Additionally, the OA visa must be obtained from a Thai embassy in your home country and requires mandatory health insurance.

Correct for the initial. An extension in country, the money has to be in Thailand

yes for the third year plus the insurance which most opt for the non-o no insurance or police check or medical

Correct. But note that if you want to apply for an extension in Thailand, you will need money in a Thai bank or proof of income from your embassy/bank transfers. Also you can only get the OA visa from the embassy in your home country, and it has a mandatory insurance requirement.

I’ve just got the non o visa from the uk and didn’t need to take out insurance, 3 months bank statements to show over £18,000, a recent photo and a copy of your passport also date you arrive in Thailand, I applied in the UK on line cost was £60 you have to upload your documents in pdf format, I got it back within a week, arrived in Thailand 90 day stamp, now I can open a bank account and use an agent to get my retirement visa.

Hi Belinda. I am looking to get a non o visa through the Thai embassy in London. Did you need your have the £18,000 showing on all of the 3 monthly bank statement. Or is ok to have it showing on the most recent bank statement.

no 90 day the OA visa is a one year multi entry visa if you exit and re enter at the end of the first year you’ll be stamped in for another year or for as long as your insurance is valid it also requires a police check and a medical certificate

yes

Unless you leave the country end of year one and come back in getting another year free?

@Brett ******
Yes you can get almost 2 years, but you'll need another year of insurance. And then your only option will be to go back home to apply for a new non-OA visa or to apply for an in-country extension using money in Thai bank.
