TLDR : Answer Summary
In Bangkok, you do not need to book an appointment for a 90-day report; however, recent circumstances have led some individuals to find that booking an appointment can expedite the process. Currently, the reporting may need to be done at a temporary location in Muang Thong Thani instead of the usual offices.
90 DAY REPORTING RESOURCES / SERVICES
Use the trusted Thailand 90 Day Reporting Service to get your in-person report done and mailed to you for as low as 375 THB (even if the online system doesn't work for you).

I booked an appointment and it was so much easier. Went to Muang Thong Thani and was seen 20 minutes before my appointment time. Cut the queue and all waiting
thanks you how does one go about booking an appointment?

Just be aware though that currently because of the amnesty and the number of people catching everything up, the 90 day reporting section is now at the alternative temporary immigration offices over by Impact Challenger at Muang Thong Thani, behind the the soccer stadium. It is not at the CW offices. Scan the bar code on the link below for the map.
