I know of someone that has a felony that would like to travel to Thailand. Would they be permitted to enter the country to visit for a few days for travel purposes?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Individuals with a felony record can generally enter Thailand as tourists since the country does not perform criminal history checks for incoming travelers. The main concern would be active warrants rather than a past felony. However, if traveling through countries like Korea with potential layovers, one should check local immigration policies regarding entering those countries.

If your traveling and have a layover in Korea, would there be any issues with getting into Korea?

Yes, they can visit. Those computers used at the border by immigration officers don’t show criminal records

Some countries don’t issue passports to felons

You know of someone ?

Thailand doesn't do a criminal history check for tourists. A past felony is not a concern. Active warrants are what would be a concern, but Thailand is not even great on catching those.

Country of passport would be helpful

no problem at all. I’ve been convicted of a LOOONG list of felonies and never had a problem, been living here for 16 years.

They did bring me in to the police station in Pattaya 16 years ago and told me that they new who I was and who I am/was in my country and that I better not do anything like that in Thailand. I told them I came here to get away from all that and that I had no intention of breaking any laws in Thailand, they never bothered me again…

There are certain visas that require police papers but that is from Thai police not your home country so no problem at all…

Why? Felonies are anglo saxon legal concepts so has to be American/Canadian/English etc, but nationality does not matter in this case

Not an English concept!
