Todd, after moving from 12 months extension of stay (retirement) to 12 months extension of stay (marriage) is it possible to then take up work again and have the Thai wife's small company apply for work permit for me to assist in building the business further.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to take up work again after switching from a retirement extension of stay (NON-O) to a marriage extension of stay (NON-O). However, your wife's company must meet specific requirements to obtain a work permit for you. It's recommended to consult with the Ministry of Labour in your area for detailed guidance.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

you will cancel your existing extension of stay and then apply for the new extension of stay at the same time. Different immigration offices have different policies, ask them for details

You are legally allowed to hold a work permit when you're on an extension based on marriage, BUT whether your wife's company can meet the requirements for you to actually get one is another story.

Have her contact the Ministry of Labour in the city you live in.
