Hi All,

If catching the train from Bangkok to Vientiane, can I submit my TM8 (re-entry permit) at the Thai border checkpoint or do I have to go to an Immigration office?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling from Bangkok to Vientiane by train, you cannot submit your TM8 re-entry permit at the Thai border checkpoint. Re-entry permits must be obtained from an immigration office prior to your trip. The nearest immigration office is in Nongkhai, where you can get your re-entry permit after exiting the train. Be aware that many immigration offices may be closed during the New Year holidays.

You can do your re entry at the immigration office in Nongkai and not at the border. Exit the train at Nongkai station and get a tuk tuk to the immigration office then proceed to the border. Remember alot of the immigration offices maybe closed until the New Year

Land borders do not offer re-entry permits. You would need to get one at your immigration office before traveling.
