Is it correct that if I have a MEV I can stay upto 6 months maximum with border runs and extensions with immigration? Also what do I need to do regarding the ongoing flight? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, if you have a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), you can potentially stay in Thailand for up to 9 months. This is achieved by entering the country, receiving an initial 60-day stay, and then making border runs every 60 days while also extending your visa at the immigration office for an additional 30 days at the end of your stay. Itโs important to plan your visa applications close to your entry date as the 6-month validity starts from the issue date of the visa. Regarding your ongoing flight, ensure that you comply with any relevant entry and exit procedures related to your visa status.
Actually you can get almost 9 full months of stay out of a 6 month METV if you work the bounces right AND you get the visa as close to you entering thailand as you can (because the 6 month validity starts running down from the date it's issued)
With bouncing every 60 days it goes like this;
get the visa
ENTER thailand get 60 days
when that 60 days is up, exit/re-enter to get another 60 days
when that 60 days is up, exit/re-enter to get another 60 days
when the VISA is almost going to expire, exit/re-enter to get a final 60 days taking you to about 240 days and get the one 30 day extension on that you're allowed at the immigration office for 1900baht taking you to 270 days or almost 9 months.
You can cut one bounce out of the above scenario IF you get a 30 day extension on each entry BUT you still need to bounce just before the VISA itself expires to get that final 60 days so you can extend it by 30 more and get to 270.
And I believe, contrary to a SETV, the METV starts the moment it's issued by the embassy (not when you enter). If you get the visa but then enter Thailand 2 months after you get it, you won't be able to get the full 9 months.
, actually the SETV validity starts running down the second it's issued as well, you have 3 months to ENTER thailand on an SETV and when you do you'll get stamped in for 60 days BUT seeing as it's just a one entry visa, it's not time critical ๐
The main difference is that the SETV's enter before date is irrelevant once you enter, whereas it's still important for the METV, since the date is crucial to get the last border run to get 9 months. That's the part a lot have difficulty figuring out.
