Hello- is there any issue with paying in Thai baht for a visa at the consulate in Penang? Is there a standard cost for each kind of visa in baht or is it based on the current exchange rate between baht and ringgit?
Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Penang, you cannot pay for a Thai visa in Thai baht; payments must be made in Malaysian Ringgit. Visa costs can vary by consulate, and the prices are typically fixed rather than based on the current exchange rate. For example, a Thai tourist visa costs 150 Ringgits in Malaysia.
The consulates are free to use the currency in the country they're in.
In Penang you pay in Ringgit, you can't pay in baht
At the thai consulates in Lao you pay in Baht, at the thai consulates in Cambodia, Myanmar & Vietnam you pay in US dollars.
And yes the price fluctuates.
A thai tourist visa in Lao is 1000baht, at the thai consulates in Malaysia it's 150 Ringgits, at the places that take US dollars it's 40 USD. Not a lot you can really do about it. You use the currency specified on the website of the thai consulate you're using.
