Hello good people! :)

I need some Visa advice.

I am a danish student, and i want to live in Thailand while doing my studies. I will be doing them online. I will be paid 35.000 bath pr month while studying from the danish government. If possible i would also like to give something back and work as a volenteer.

Is there any chance i would be able to live in Thailand for 2-3 years for studies?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Danish student is seeking advice on living in Thailand for 2-3 years while studying online and wishes to volunteer. The discussion reveals that obtaining an educational visa is possible but typically requires enrollment in an endorsed institution for language or Muay Thai. Volunteering is also heavily restricted without a work permit. The student may have opportunities to learn Thai and Muay Thai while living in Thailand, yet must comply with visa regulations.

The short answer is no, you can't obtain an educational visa for the purposes of taking a Danish educational course even if it's online.

You can get an education visa (there're a number of requirements needed) and these do require you to physically attend an endorsed educational facility, the normal courses undertaken are obviously learning Thai language although you can also enrol with a Thai university for an undergraduate degree course for example.

Educational visas also require you to extend them every 90 days.

This is another way to extend. After you’ve studied Thai and Muay Thai, there’s a possibility you could take transferable courses at a Thai University. It’s also possible you might not as the Thai may see that you are trying to live in Thailand, but it’s possible you can.

“With tourist visa, travellers are strictly prohibited to conduct in all kinds of work including volunteer work and internship.”

From Royal Thai Embassy Copenhagen, which should have been the thing to figure out, before dreaming tha almost impossibel.

- Everyone is able to work for free in Denmark.. :) We do that quite alot.. At children homes, elderly homes and stuff like that.. I would never take the bread out of someone's mouth...

You will take jobs that local people could do, and need to have to earn a living.

So.. If i study muy thai and the thai language i will be able to stay for a max of 2 years? That would be perfect. I would be able to study my education online and study both thai and muy thai which i was inclined to do anyways.. 😍

I thought volenteer work would only help me, but apparently it only makes it harder to stay?.😅

there is visa for volunteers but I think that you have to be with an acknowledged charity organization... Google a bit. Maybe study mui thai 90 days, then do volunteer work, then....

But you are still young, pls make sure you study something proper so you have a good career. Sun, fun, sea & chick's is great but ....

start talking to schools and see if you can find one that matches where you want to live and what you want to learn

2-3 years is highly likely unless you get a job with a Thai company, marry a Thai citizen, or have a half Thai child.

Your best bet is probably an education visa to study Thai language or Muay Thai. You can get 1 year, maybe 2 years maximum using this. You will be expected to attend classes in person a minimum number of hours per week during the entirety of your stay in Thailand.

Volunteering is illegal without a work permit, and volunteer visas were so abused for people trying to stay in Thailand that they're basically impossible to get anymore, so you won't be able to volunteer (legally).
