Can I get a 1-year extension of stay on my Elite visa in Thailand?

Just an FYI but I just went to immigration in Maha Sarakham for my 90 day report and also asked about doing 1 year extension of stay on my Elite visa as my last entry stamp was October last year and the immigration officials insisted that I couldn't get a 1 year extension at all. I politely argued with them for about 10 minutes (they are lovely people and it was quite a jovial argument) and then they finally agreed to call someone higher up in BKK and after their call they apologised to me and said yes I can do the 1 year extension. They told me I am the only one who has this visa at this office so they didn't realise. At least they know now for the future although I was surprised they didn't just call someone first to ask rather than initially telling me they can't do it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their experience at immigration in Maha Sarakham while trying to obtain a 1-year extension of their Elite visa after their last entry stamp. Initially, immigration officials stated it was not possible, but after a discussion and a call to Bangkok, they confirmed that the extension could be granted. The interaction highlights the importance of persistence and politeness in dealing with immigration matters.

You are lucky that they actually called. Smart to keep polite and keep your cool. ;)

getting angry would have not helped but anyway they all know me from past visits and we get on so on this occasion I just had to convince them that I knew more than they did with this visa ๐Ÿ˜€

it just goes to show mate that even immigration officials in these more rural provinces don't really know or understand everything about all Thai visas.

Duncan. It's often just as complicated for them as it is for us!
