TLDR : Answer Summary
Changing a NON ED student visa to a tourist visa while in Thailand is not permitted. You need to leave the country and apply for a tourist visa from a neighboring country, with Cambodia being a suggested option. Additionally, if you're on an extension of stay due to education, it's important to cancel that extension before leaving to avoid any issues when trying to return.

Now we are in the same situation. It seem it’s impossible unless you leave out of Thailand and then come in via tourist visa

Yes I understand, but it is a bit troublesome as well.

then people shouldn't come to Thailand if they don't want to follow the rules. It's been this way forever and not going to change it because a couple Facebook complaints.

You can follow rules but also find them troublesome at times. There's nothing wrong with that. No one's asking for a reform here.

I find having to find a toilet when I need to go to the bathroom troublesome. I find following the rules of a country that's not my own to be what I should be doing and not crying about it on Facebook.

I don't think finding rules or anything troublesome in situations is such a big deal. Right now, it is a bit of a problem for me. But I ain't asking no one to change it. If it is like this, I have to go about my problem in another way. So if you are going to catch on to this without understanding there's nothing that can be done I guess.

cool. Tell the government its troublesome and a problem for you, I'm sure they'll change policy for you. Or maybe the Facebook crew can start a comment section to help you. Plain and simple, you are not special, follow the rules.

This is what I am saying from the start. I only said it is a bit troublesome. You can find things troublesome but you don't really want a chance necessarily. When I said it's a bit of a trouble, it ended there. I don't really expect a change nor did I say that I am not going to follow rules so, I don't know what the issue is here. And as you state, I am not special, so my comment about it being a bit of a trouble is a personal feeling and isn't going to reach the government or Facebook, so I don't know why you have to make a fuss about something without a reason. I wish you would use your knowledge when there is an actual issue.

If you are on an extension of stay due to education (rather than a visa sticker in your passport (or evisa) ) you need to make sure you cancel that extension of stay before leaving otherwise you will have problems on returning and trying for another extension.

I am not on an extension,if I decide to leave before the student visa expires, is there anything I need to do, or can I just leave? I do not need a re- entry permit.

don’t forget if you return on a Tourist visa you will need to apply for a Thailand Pass (TP)

You cannot get a tourist visa within Thailand. You would have to leave Thailand and apply from a nearby country. Currently Cambodia seems the easiest option.

Hi, I would like to ask more about Cambodia. Do I need to stay there one month before applying for the visa or else ?

@Pt *******
I don’t believe so, but that may depend on your nationality. Look at the announcements at the top of this page. There’s a full list of things you need to do there.
