TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of applying for a Retirement Visa (OA) from the Thai embassy in Paris after recently visiting Thailand on a TR visa. Comments suggest that application for the OA visa can indeed be done in Paris, and provide an alternative approach of entering Thailand on a visa exempt stamp and applying for the Retirement Visa locally, which may avoid certain insurance requirements.

Come to Thailand on a Visa exempt stamp and then apply for a Retirement Visa in country. Then insurance is not required/

I have been told that is no longer true.

If you enter the country now and then apply for an O visa you still will be asked to provide insurance.

I would love to be wrong.

Many years ago (maybe 6) I entered the coun rty on a retirement visa from Brisbane, Australia. In January of this year, I applied for my first extention of stay based on Retirement. There was no mention of insurance.

Isn't it wise to have insurance regardless though? Terrible advice going on here.

He'll need insurance to enter the country, $100,000USD worth including Covid cover. Much easier to get the Non Imm O before he arrives in Thailand. Even the Non Imm OA is a better bet than coming in on a visa exemption.

, no need insurance for O, but obligated for OA, in or out the country!

As by saying retirement visa doesn’t exist(although farang name it that way) it is O or OA non immigrant based on retirement!

It's actually based on being 50 years or older NOT on retirement. You dont have to be retired to get either the O or the OA.
