My wife has been on continuous Non-B visa extensions with a valid Work Permit for over 3 years. We are exploring applying for Permanent Residency (PR) this October, provided she meets all criteria. However, her company is currently offering to switch her to an LTR visa. If she switches from Non-B to LTR now, will that reset her 3-year continuous Non-B clock required for the PR application?

Hi everybody,

I have a question.

Thank you!
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the implications of switching from a Non-B visa to an LTR visa on the eligibility for Permanent Residency (PR) in Thailand. It is noted that switching to an LTR visa can reset the 3-year continuous Non-B requirement for PR applications, which is why most commenters advise against making the switch if the PR application is a priority. Additionally, there are reminders about the extensive documentation required for applying for PR.

I would personally continue on the Non-B, assuming you’ve already started the paperwork for PR. If you haven’t, I’d get a move on.

There’s a lot of documentation required for the PR application, and it’s not as simple as just submitting a few forms. You’ll need original documents rather than photocopies or printouts, along with three years of payslips, tax records, police checks from both your home country and Thailand, and various documents translated into Thai.

It’s definitely worth getting organised early, as gathering and preparing everything can take considerably longer than you might expect.

Need non-b and pay tax continuously. You really want to spend the 200k Baht on PR?

LTR removes the path towards PR and citizenship entirely.

Stay on the Non-B.
