Why did I receive a warning at DMK without my required documents?

Just got taken to a desk and given a warning at DMK - the thing is, he didn’t even ask to see my required stuff. I haven’t done a “visa run” since December. I’ve been in and out since then, but for 2-4 weeks at a time. Told me I cannot extend on this 30-day stamp and should come back in next time with a visa. 😕 Fair enough, and he was very reasonable, but I’m curious if he was just verbally cautioning me, or if I’ve somehow been flagged in the system...?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user describes an encounter at DMK airport where they were issued a warning by immigration without having their documents checked. They were advised not to extend their 30-day stamp and to obtain a proper visa for future entries. Several community comments discuss varying experiences at different airports, suggest getting a 6-month METV for frequent travel, and debate the reliability of immigration warnings, with some affirming difficulties at DMK compared to other airports.

and on that note we're done.

The only way you're going to know IF you can get an extension or not is to go to the immigration office and try.

If you do try, message me on whether you got one or not and I'll open the commenting back up so you can post your update.

Good Luck (y)

You can extend it, it's just something they like to scare people into believing
Ron *******
Sebastian Johansson oh well, that's it then. You haven't read it, it's not happened
Sebastian ***********
Ron Angel as I said, I still haven't read a report about somebody being denied extension because IO's at airports. I've been following it on a daily basis since when it all started.

Obviously it would be awesome if you instead could show me someone who this happend to, i see no issues or egos hurt of being proven the opposite. Instead of having a grumpy attitude I mean.

@Sebastian **********
obviously not if you think it's just a scare tactic.

I've been following it since it started. I'm fully aware on what's going on.

i would wary with that idea. There has been a couple of case's recently where people couldn't extend due too the entry on the system.

Things are changing.

@Tod ********
I personally never heard of a case like that. Only them writing stuff on departurecards and saying they put it in the database so you can't extend and afterwards the victim went to the local immigration and extended it without a problem. Actually that's what has been happening in every single report I've read online
Tod *********
careful with that broad brushing :O There are cases where I/O's wrote on an entry stamp that it cannot be extended AND there are cases where they made a note in the system that the immigration offices can see stating it can't be extended.

There's no harm in trying to see if it can be extended.. I mean all that will happen is they will say they can't do it..

I have never heard anyone have problems with immigration at Phuket airport.. Its just so many tourists I don't think they really care that much....

I got told off about ten days ago. Had to go to the man at the desk. Told me this was my last entry without visa, took fingerprints and told me to go home and get a proper visa. Let me in for 30 days, made a note on the computer that I was not allowed an extention.

They are a ‘known unknown’, they move in mysterious ways...and yes they do care!
Tod *********
There were a couple reports right in a row of people being denied entry at Phuket airport :O Believe me depending on the immigration office they DO care..

Avoiding DMK at all costs.

Ain't worth it.

It's the same at Suvarnabhumi.

Just get a 6 month METV if you’re traveling in and out so frequently

Ok welllll guys he put a little tick on the corner of my stamp, but that’s it. Who knows what he put in the computer. I have plans to go to Europe and the US mid-June so I wanted to do a land border or extension to stretch that far. I’m gonna try anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Brooke *******
no writing so that’s a good thing

@Ross *******
your argument is nullified...the EL is a tourist visa...so you really have no answer
Ross ********
I suggest you read my post again...there are 2 options mentioned....my only "argument" is that the 6 month metv is still a tourist visa and if the IO wants to they can deny entry on a metv....which if you read the other replies....does happen
Jeremy ********
@Ross *******
so basically you have no answer you just want to argue....I still say the 6 month METV is the way to go...unless an Ed visa, EL, over 50, or marriage visa us in her future....
Ross ********
Everybody's situation is different.....elite visa if you have $$$ Ed visa if you have time and $$ it sucks.....I was in the same boat with multiple tourist visas but I am over 50 so I just got the non O in Laos so I don't have to sweat this mess.. .I feel for the OP
Jeremy ********
@Ross *******
what would you suggest then?
Ross ********
Doesn't change a damn thing....tourist visa or visa excempt if the I/O thinks you are living or working in Thailand they can deny your entry
Jeremy ********
@Ross *******
it still mitigates the risk if he’s traveling that much....plus it opens up the door to land border crossings as well
Ross ********
Can still be denied on a metv
Jeremy ********
If I were you I would still get the 6 month METV
Glen *********
@Brooke *******
unfortunately it’s at the sole discretion of each IO every time you arrive, so 30 days might be fine for him but not another - and they don’t really care if you have the 3 proofs, because once they determine you are not a genuine tourist (i.e. living here) then they will deny you entry no matter what...

The old days of changing passport is no longer as effective because they have your entire travel history in their system anyway...
Glen *********
Brooke Palmer doesn’t matter what he writes in the passport, it matter’s what the IO writes in their computer system that will flag on his next arrival.
Jeremy ********
@Brooke *******
did he write anything in your passport?
Jeremy ********
@Glen ********
nothing is ever guaranteed with any I/O but you still have to mitigate the risk of denial, and one way is with a visa....

Glen Shkolar yeah I think that’s why he said don’t come back in on a tourist visa. Well that was his “suggestion.” He said it would be ok if I stayed out for more than 30 days at a time. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Glen *********
@Jeremy *******
that does not guarantee entry, I’ve been questioned twice on arrival with METV, and know of another who was sent home - due to the fact they determined the person was not a genuine tourist.

Yup that was already the plan after this return.... but I think he told me not to get a tourist visa...? Maybe I misunderstood him. It was 4 AM. Haha

BTW the only time I've ever had difficulty with visa-exempt stuff is at DMK. No like DMK 🤣 CNX, BKK, the land borders, no problem, they don't so much as blink. What's up with DMK, why you gotta be like that?!?
Maxim ***********
You had problem in Chiang Mai or opposite?
Ross ********
The thing is even if you have a tourist visa they could still deny you entry

Limited options if you are under 50 or not married to a Thai or not teaching English.

yes that was the most meaningful part of our whole exchange - he didn’t really care about my ongoing ticket or funds. He just pointed at my history. So even if you have all that stuff prepared, you could be turned away 😐
