My husband and I have been living in Hua Hin for the past 18 months. My question is regarding getting a 90 day non O visa in Australia and then when we get back to Thailand then applying for a one year non O visa based on retirement. When I emailed the Thai embassy in Melbourne Australia they said we were ineligible to apply for that 90 day visa. Can anyone tell me why that would be the case

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on why they were deemed ineligible for a 90-day Non-O visa from the Thai embassy in Melbourne despite meeting age requirements and having lived in Thailand on a different visa type. Other community members suggested potential solutions, such as contacting different Thai consulates and considering alternative visa options.

you shouldn't have a problem going to the thai consulate in Penang and getting a Non-O visa based on being over 50 and getting another one at the same time for the spouse based on being married to someone who has a Non-O based on being over 50.

AFAIK they issue them at the same time to couples

@Ja***
thank you that does answer my question. I went through so many posts but didn’t find that one

Also the consulate in Melbourne and the Thai Embassy in Canberra do not mention the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age on their web sites.
Robert *******
As far as I know it is possible at Hua Hin Immigrant Office, but best to give it a check and take the requirements directly with you.

I think your best option will be to get a tourist visa, come back into Thailand and convert this to the Non Immigrant O visa for one of you and the other one can apply for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being a dependent after the partner got the visa inside Thailand at a consulate in the area

The OA visa is a different visa then then normal O visa.

@Rob***
ok I think it’ll be a trip to Sydney as that was where we got our OA visa and they were really helpful

You could get the Non O is a nearby Thai Consulate. Then get the Extension of Stay in Thailand. You will have to meet the financial requirements of 800,000 Thai baht

banked in a Thai bank to get the Extension of Stay.

You save yourself a lot of time by a simple visit to their website

ok I’ll have a read of that. I emailed Melbourne to see if they could send a checklist for what was needed so we were prepared

Sorry yes we are both over 50 and have been here on a non imm OA visa. We got stamped in for an extra year as we left Thailand and returned before the end date. This visa now ends on

But if may have something to do with this statement on their website: Retirement Visa

Since the Royal Thai Consulate General Melbourne does not issue retirement visas, we are therefore unable to offer any information regarding this visa.

Rolling the dice, you are younger then 50 year? It should help if you are willing to share details.
