TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen who arrived in Bangkok on March 19th on a visa-exempt tourist entry wants to extend their stay by 30 days. They are inquiring about which immigration office to visit—Chaeng Watthana (CW) or Muang Thong Thani—and what documents are needed for the extension. Community comments clarify that no embassy letter is required for the first extension and that the necessary documents include a passport, photos, fees, and specific copies. It is recommended to go to Muang Thong Thani for the extension.

IF you are here on a 30 day visa exempt entry (meaning you didn't BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate before you came here but were stamped in for free for 30 days) you use Muang Thong Thani for BOTH your 30 day normal extension AND if you need time after that the emergency unable to travel due to covid-19 extension too
By the way, I just saw on the other post that for the first 30 days extension, we go to CW. Yet I thought they have moved the visa-free extension for visa free exemption to Muang Thong Thani didn't they?
you read wrong :/ IF you are on a 30 day visa exempt entry and want your first 30 day 'normal' extension that'd be section K which was moved to Muang Thong Thani.
Sounds good. Finally, for my case and this extension, would the TM 30 receipt be needed? Im staying in an airbnb . And my host filled it out online but somehow didn't get the receipt.
Understood. But since this would be the first extension, I do not think the embassy letter would be needed as we discussed above. And I'd presume the TM30 won't be needed for my case. Especially since its a bit of a hassle for me to have my host get the receipt of TM30 which I'd prefer not to do.
okay, PAY ATTENTION, if you're here on a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry you do NOT need the embassy letter to get your first 30 day extension (the normal extension you could always get on those entries)
You need it to get an unable to travel due to covid-19 extension after that.
Have everything on here. Except that my departure card I got after I filled out the arrival at the airport and got it stamped got soiled from spilling some soup on there the other day. Will they have extra departure cards at immigration? And since that departure card got stamped yet I accidentally spilled some soup, would that matter?
If you entered Thailand on 19 March 2020 and got the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry, you must have a Admitted until 18 April 2020 date stamped in your passport. There is no embassy letter needed as you can apply for the normal 30 day Extension of Stay.
As it is very busy at Immigration people are asked to wait until the last few days of their stay to visit for applications
Understood. but I guess that makes little difference. In this case, if my embassy letter is not needed, what is required for documentation? Also I guess I should still go to the Muang Thong Thani?
