What should I know before applying for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand?

To everyone considering applying for the DTV.

Please set aside a good chunk of time (hours if necessary) just for filling out the application online (apart from document / cover letter prep).

If you're even 10% unsure on any part, make sure to reach out for help or consult the guide/manual material provided.

10,000 baht is a lot of money to lose for silly mistakes, such as inputting a middle name when your middle name isn't even on your passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Applying for the DTV visa requires careful attention to detail. Allocate plenty of time to fill out the online application and ensure you have all necessary documents ready. Double-check your inputs to avoid costly mistakes, such as errors with your name details. While some advise seeking help from agents, many believe the process is manageable on your own if you are well-prepared. Utilize the available resources and manuals, and remember, you can pause your application if needed.

It’s simple, read the website of the Thai Embassy you will use.

Search this group for that specific Embassy.

Fill out the application at

(where you also find a user manual on top.)

You can pause the application at any point, if you need to further investigate something or get more documents.

Apply from another country than Thailand, and stay in that country until the application is processed and visa granted/ rejected.

someone recently reported losing 10k baht for this exact mistake.

While you should spend hours reading the valuable info in this group, you don’t have to spend hours on the actual application website. If you are prepared and have your documents ready and merged into PDFs, the actual process doesn’t take that much time, even if you double/triple check every entry field.

While I agree with you it shouldn't actually take long to submit the application, it seems people are rushing in some cases and donating 10K baht to Thailand. This is totally needless.

A good hour will do to go through the various tabs and triple check everything.

I spent 8 hours and to no fault of my own because I applied as a trader they have a section specifically for this and its what I put and they sent an email back 10 days later asking for my employee contract and a letter from my employer. Obviously if im a stock trader I have no employee contract. I sent 3 months of my portfolio as well as 3 months of bank records with SIGNIFICANTLY more money than they require in both accounts. So I just flew back to Thailand and got my things from the condo I had a year contract on and left. They want to play games I dont need it.

there is no specific "trader" section, there is a soft power application and a digital nomad application which is broken into workcation, freelancer and remote worker.

did you include a professionally written cover letter with a compelling argument for why you're eligible?
Ben *******
Anonymous participant under digital nomad which is what I applied for there is a place that says trader and yes. I included a very well written letter that describes why im eligible and that im not seeking any Thai employment and that im fully self sufficient. I also included my profitable portfolio and my bank statements which have more in them than 90% of applicants

I think you believe you saw what you want to see.

I believe Ben might be confusing "sole trader" (self-employed person) with someone who "trades" stocks, currency, whatever....?

if he hallucinated on the application portal it's likely the application wasn't cohesive.

I saw no such section when I applied 2 weeks ago. I was approved with a somewhat similar situation to you.

Or just pay and get an agent to do it on your behalf. I highly recommend Issa Compass!!

I had just read a post of someone losing their 10K baht for carelessness with the name inputs. Just a reminder to folks. I recommend not using an agent.

Ehm you should have all those required documents ready yourself
Ling *****
They give you an option to manually correct any incorrect inputs. You need to check everything before you go further with your application.

Good advice - it is these QA checks that are vital. The system is not robust and mistakes are costly.
