What should I know about applying for a Thai visa from the UK, especially regarding bank statements?

Hey, all - first of all, thanks so much to everyone who has shared their experiences and offered assistance in this group - I've been going through it with a fine tooth comb and the info was gold πŸ™ my application was approved and I'm now in Chiangmai!

Given the fact that the majority of my funds are in an ISA and I was requested extra documents around this subject, I wanted to share my experience (with the London Embassy) if anyone else faces this concern:

Wednesday 12th Feb: Submitted application (soft power, London Embassy)

Friday 14th Feb: requested extra documents (better quality and cropped photo [my bad], 30 day statement from a personal account)

NOTE: I'd already provided 6 months of statements from a personal savings account (HSBC) and the annual letter from another bank (Cynergy) with the majority of my funds (in an ISA) - together, this came to over 500k THB.

I had a nightmare trying to obtain an actual statement from Cynergy bank as ISAs work differently (so they say), so after a lot of back-and-forth, I provided the Embassy with the following:

Tuesday 18th Feb: Submitted cover letter explaining that I could not get a 30-day statement for my cash ISA as my bank can't provide this, so I have provided the following:

* Transaction history

* Savings deposit details

* Account deposit details

(the sum was over the 500k THB requirement and it stated that it was an annual ISA, with dates, etc.)

THANKFULLY this was enough - I was so concerned that I couldn't provide an actual bank statement (as with current accounts) but with the letter explaining things, and the supporting documents, it was approved the next day (Wednesday 19th Feb)

For anyone applying in the UK, the London Embassy were super quick and would 100% recommend. I hope this helps for anyone else who might have the same situation as I did πŸ™ƒ

P.S. PRINT YOUR VISA! The immigration officer at Chiangmai was very lovely but asked to physically see my visa. I'd already printed it, as well as my muay thai docs (although he didn't ask to see this and there's nothing in the remarks about softpower)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their successful visa application experience at the London Embassy, detailing the timeline and specific document requirements. They encountered a challenge due to funds being held in an ISA and were asked for a 30-day statement, which their bank couldn't provide. Instead, they submitted a cover letter and supporting documents, which led to their application being approved quickly. The user encourages others to print their visa and shares positive feedback about the embassy's efficiency.

Congrats. London does seem to be very efficient. It is one of the prime postings for MFA staff. Welcome to Chiang Mai. I moved here yesterday.

The opinions on smoke season range from the world is ending to nothing to worry about. As with anything else I suspect it is somewhere in the middle. I will buy a Xioami Air Filter anyway. Singapore had a yearly smoke season when I lived there from Indonesia. I lived Bangkok which is not the best for air purity all year round.

Yeah it is more of a nuisance than anything else. Why not support your fellow Brit and buy a Dyson Air filter?

I would rather stick pins up my urethra than buy anything from the fraud.

Cograts on the approval. Very useful.. London is very quick to approve and no doubt you would have been approved even quicker with all 500K in one regular bank. Good to know they accepted the ISA.

@Andi **********
totally, they were super fast, I just keep my money in an ISA as it’s better interest rates etc but thankfully they accepted the supporting docs

Anonymous participant That is good you did not lose anything by divesting, like many do , inc myself to meet the 500K bank statement requirement.
