What should I check on my passport stamps when entering Thailand?

Just a little bit of advice. When you receive any stamp in your passport before you leave the desk make sure you can clearly read the stamp.

This week came from Laos and on arrival at Thai immigration they could not read the exit stamp from Laos, to be honest it was very faint. After being told to return to Laos to get another visa and entry and exit stamps the senior guy did let me in. They were polite and helpful. But just beware!

TLDR : Answer Summary
It's important to check that any stamps you receive in your passport are clearly legible before leaving the immigration desk. A recent experience highlighted that a faint exit stamp from Laos caused issues upon entering Thailand, though in the end, the immigration officer allowed entry after some discussion. Travelers are reminded of the responsibility they hold regarding their passport documentation.

Good post, thank you. At the end one is responsible on what gets put on one's passport, and it is not possible for the official to be 100% correct always. Due dilligence is in order.

the stamp was poor. I know two others who have been sent back.

Some countries don't provide exit stamps. Notable among them is the US.

So anyone who leaves Thailand for the US can be sent back to the US uponbreturn to Thailand, for lack of a legible exit stamp from the US?

You do realize that Immigration stamps your passport upon exit from Thailand?

@David *********
yes of course, been doing that since 2009

The post was about a faint , unreadable stamp on exit from Lao

But OP did not state it was a land crossing until he replied to my comment

Which negated my comment to fly in and out, but the advice is still good information

I am pointing out a border crossing to do with a passport exit stamp

I could prove I was in Laos as I had a Laos visa. Nothing to do with the stamp though.

I am just telling my experience so others will be aware. Don't want to write a novel about it.
