Hey everyone! im going to Laos to get a tourist visa, and everywhere i've read it says its three days process or something like that, but the website says its 10-15 business days to process the visa, starting jan 1st 2025. Has anyone done a visa in Vientiane recently? any update on how long the process takes?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking clarity on the processing time for a tourist visa to Laos, mentioning that there is conflicting information regarding a 10-15 business day processing time stated on a website effective January 1st, 2025, compared to the commonly reported three-day process. A commenter suggests that obtaining a Lao visa at the airport can be instant but at a higher cost, indicating that the visa process may not take as long as initially thought.

Umm, not sure, but doesn't he meen a Thai visa getting in Vientiane ? Don't know if he needs a tourist visa instead of 60 days exempt entry 🤷‍♂️ Also a bit tricky on his page he says living in BKK 😬

Yes, i mean a thai tourist visa. I've been working in thailand for some time, my contract finished and with it my non B visa, and i want to re enter to enjoy thailand as a tourist

ahhhh ok. If you go to Laos be prepared to stay a night or 2 and pay for an entry visa. If in Bangkok do a border run/bounce from Onut to the Cambodian border easy and only 1 day.

Yeah, thats the plan but the evisa website says 10-15 days and thats my question

Don’t get the Tourist visa from the Thai Embassy, you don’t need it. Because you’ve been working you wont have a problem entering now on the Visa Exemption- either fly in/out or do a border bounce as suggested above.

im traveling with a mexican passport, which is on the list for 60 day exemption. If i fly to Laos and then fly back a day or two later, would the customs officers have a problem with it? i have never made a fly in visa exemption because mexican passport was added recently, so i dont really understand the procedure, what does it entail?

i have plans to travel around a little, if i get that visa exemption can i get re entry permit as well?

thank you so much for your help
Mma *******
@Martín *******
no, because you said you are coming off a work permit, so its common to do this to look for another job or indeed, tidy up loose ends.

sounds reasonable, i hope i get a reasonable officer on the way in...

How long would you say i should stay in Laos? one, two days, maybe more?

Any airport preferable, DMK or Suvarnabhumi, or is it just the same? sorry to be so insistent, im kinda nervous about it
Mma *******
@Martín *******
you wouldn’t get hassled b/c you are no abusing Tourist Exemtion stamps. If you haven’t purchased flight tickets a land border bounce is best (10 hours door to door). If flying one day in Laos.

already have my exit flight to vientiane booked for tonight, so i guess i can come back on tuesday by air... or maybe just go down the bridge by land would be easier and then fly to bkk from within thailand?

@Martín *******
maybe or maybe not if its through an airport. That's why I suggested thai visa service as you won't be knocked back as they grease palms. Contact them

unfortunately mexico is not in the country list for the visa service you shared, and because my extension of stay finishes today, i cannot depart tomorrow at 4 am even if they could do it for me
Phil ******
@Martín *******
yep that's why you contact them as they requested. So they are very very responsive

airports are hard on people now so don't take my advice but

1. Have ฿20k in cash

Have your address in Thailand and

A proof of onward travel .

Expect to be questioned and maybe denied entry to Thailand if your past history of entries warrants the IO to pull you aside. Always maintain you are a tourist and haven't seen all of the country yet.

My suggestion that's all.

i've had a non B visa based on work permit for the last 5 years, i hope that would be easy. I could also do the land bounce from Vientiane through thw bridge(because i bought the exit flight but not the return ticket yet), would land bounce from Vientiane be easier?

@Martín *******
why didn't you tell me earlier. i HAD one too but if you still have then a fly out/in is no problem.

if you hold a Non-Immigrant Visa "B" (for business and work) and plan to leave and re-enter Thailand, you must obtain a re-entry permit before leaving the country, otherwise your visa will be voided.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Why you need a re-entry permit: If you have a Non-Immigrant Visa "B" and leave Thailand without a re-entry permit, your visa will become invalid, and you won't be able to re-enter Thailand on that visa.

Where to apply: You can apply for a re-entry permit at any immigration office in Thailand.

Types of re-entry permits: You can apply for a single or multiple re-entry permit.

Cost: The cost for a single re-entry permit is 1,700 THB and 3,800 THB for a multiple entry permit.

Important note: A re-entry permit is valid for the duration of your visa, meaning it doesn't reset your stay days every time you re-enter.

oh my non B is expiring, i finished my contract and i want to return to thailand as a tourist for a while
Phil ******
@Martín *******
ahhhh ok. Then if you want a hassle free way of re-entering the country I strongly suggest use land as much less hassles. Why not give my suggestion a quick message and they will say its ok or not and give you a price. I think you will pay ฿4000too.

by the way thank you so much both
@Phil *****
and
@Mma ******
for your help, im quite the anxious person and you're helping me so much.

One last question, can i get a re-entry on the visa exemption or would i need to get another at the border? i plan to travel a little but still want to return to thailand...

i contacted them, and they said they dont take mexican passports. Seems like i will do the land crossing at Vientiane then, hopefully it will be easier than flying back into Bangkok. Will i need proof of onward travel and the 20k still?
Phil ******
@Martín *******
yes if you are pulled aside have those 3 things. Try Bangkok buddy a border bounce company too
