Hello

I want to apply for the Wealthy Pensioner LTR Visa. I meet the requirements,but not clear on what documentation I should provide for proof of income. I am a US citizen. I am thinking providing my 2024 form 1040 tax return with the pension section highlighted and my 2024 1099s for my pensions. Make sense? Good plan? Appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen looking to apply for the Wealthy Pensioner LTR Visa is uncertain about the required documentation for proof of income. Suggestions from the community include providing the 2024 Form 1040 tax return with a highlighted pension section and 2024 1099s for pensions. Others recommend using an agency for assistance and mention that the BOI may ask for documentation of two years of passive income. Community members also share their personal experiences with the document submission process, emphasizing the importance of providing clear and organized proof of income, and even discuss the necessity of photos for the application.

I don’t have enough passive income which is annoying. Was hoping a k1 would count but it doesn’t. So I’m going to apply for the work from abroad one. Waiting on paperwork from my new job (thank goodness they lowered the company income to 50 million) and my renewed passport. Also… they answer questions quite quickly on their fb account. I rna into an issue that if you put down that you are single , the kids box greys out. Sigh. They told me to say divorced or widowed. Interesting to be told to lie on official paperwork but..

I am applying for the LTR, the BOI is pretty easy and don’t require an agent as BOI kinda serve as your agent. They like to see your tax returns, SSA & 1099s, the problem I am having is not being able to produce 1099 for passive rental income even though it’s shown on my tax return and I provide copy of lease agreement and monthly bank statements showing direct deposits from my tenant. They like seeing 1099 because it’s easy for them to understand, any suggestion from anyone who had gone through the same situation?

Sorry all, but one more question. Is it necessary to provide a passport size photo taken in business attire without glasses? Not a big deal but just wondering if necessary for initial application process.

All,

Many thanks for your responses and recommendations. One comment that struck me was BOI may ask for two years of passive (read retirement) income. I hav been retired for one year. Is it common for BOI to ask for two years or is one year of documentation sufficient? Hopefully it is. Thanks again everybody.

I made the 2 yr comment. As I said, I only submitted one year of tax return in October 2023. I saw a number of comments in early 2024 about BOI asking for two years of tax returns. I don't know any more details on that.

Since you don't pay anything to apply then I would just go ahead with the application and wait for them to ask questions, if any.

For me BOI asked for the same documents referenced in the letter above attached to the post by Jim Ramsey. Hopefully you have been retired for all/most of 2024.... Your last tax return (ie 2024 1040) will normally be required.

As in the post above Ramsey post, be sure to include tax free income that does not appear on your tax return. For example, dividends and capital gains in any Roth accounts (those helped put me over the $80k mark).

Thank you for the reply. I will include

According to those at the BOI, they will divide the income from your tax returns by the number of dependents listed on your return. Something to keep in mind.

Best wherever you are, go to your local immigration and ask. Immigration speaks English and every province the IOs can be different.

@Dwayne *******
lol. LTR visa are handled by the BOI has nothing to do with immigration except putting in the stamp once you are approved.

@Todd ********
thanks, stand corrected

Would an agent be under $1500.00 us?
Todd *********
@Sharron ******
It's a very straightforward, easy, online application. I honestly don't even see how an agent could help unless you don't really qualify
Sharron *******
Stuart Hansen it better than I did. I am 77 and I don't want to have to deal with any of that. I just finished dealing with lawyers getting insurance claim of a hurrican two years ago settles. Which has been a two year fight. Now I just finished redoing my whole house from that damage. . Now I am in the middle of selling it. Enough.. I'll let an agent do it/ I was just hoping it would be between $1500. and $2000. for agent. Thats all I wanted to know. But Thank you

You guys should a visa advice group “I’ve got so much money visa”
Marty *********
I just submitted my tax returns. No highlighting. No other financial documents. They may ask for 2 years. If they want more information they will ask
Stuart ********
Don't tell me otherwise it's total nonsense
Sharron *******
Stuart Hansen I am with you Stuart. I was not asking about LTR. Just a Retirment Visa agent.
Tony ********
Stuart Hansen no one has said agents can't be helpful in securing visa 's when dealing with immigration and non-O type visa's.

However, the OP is not asking about this, the question is around LTR visa, which is through BOI, who technically work as the agent already.
Stuart ********
Why subject yourself to all the hassle, money in the bank, health insurance, bank account ect ect, use an agency, I have lived happily in Thailand using my agent, most people living in Thailand are living in la la land, you can get what you want using an agency.
Todd *********
Stuart Hansen ya Stu, you really don't have a clue about LTR mate.
Jim ********
I used a cover letter and explained my income and supplied all the documents as attachments in one PDF file. If the BOI needs more info they will request it. Add 1040, income and brokerage statements, etc.
Kool *******
The BOI, board of investment, handles those visas, not the regular immigration offices, and they are very helpful, and easy to work with. You don't need an agent.
Stuart ********
I have been using my agent for 8yrs and never had a problem, it's worth the money believe me.
Todd *********
Stuart Hansen lol, if you qualified for an LTR visa, you most certainly wouldn't be using an agent or doing annual visa renewals
Marty *********
Stuart Hansen I have an LTR. It comes out to 5,000/yr. No bank account needed. I already had insurance. I qualified with a single pension. Nothing to do yearly. Easier than an agent.
Bob **********
@Stuart *******
it’s a 10 year visa why do you use an agent every year ???
Stuart ********
@Bob *********
you just don't get it do you
Bob **********
@Stuart *******
I get it been doing my visa myself for 15 years the reason most use agents is because they have no funds I’ll bet you no nothing about a LTR visa now do you
Stuart ********
Use an agency it's much easier and not expensive. An agency can do everything for you so you can relax and not worry about it.
Sharron *******
Everyone keeps saying how expensive an agent is. I don't think $1500.00 to $2,000.00 is expensive if they do all the work
Todd *********
Stuart Hansen It's insanely expensive for agents to assist LTR. But the process is generally so easy, it would be pointless to use one
Marty *********
Stuart Hansen The process is easy if you have a pension over $80k/yr
Stuart ********
This group is full of must do it right people. Good luck to you all. Good bye
Stuart ********
OK up to you good luck
Jim ********
@Stuart *******
no need for an agent. the process is so easy and straight forward on The BOI site. They provide a checklist, process ext.
Dave **********
@Stuart *******
did my own and BOI helped answering questions very promptly.

@Dave *********
yep, no need for agency, pity the money. BOI is very helpful and for free!!
