Tax on 800k THB in Thai bank for Non-O US citizens

I’m reading/watching about Thai taxation on the 800k THB required in a Thai bank account being 20-25% for a Non O US citizen. Will what you spend during the year in Thailand also be taxed? Seeing conflicting info on that. Anyone seen a definitive answer that I missed?
Answer summary
The discussion focuses on the tax implications for US citizens in Thailand regarding the 800,000 THB that needs to be held in a Thai bank as part of the Non-O visa requirements. Several commenters clarify that generally, US citizens are not taxed on income remitted to Thailand due to a double taxation treaty between the US and Thailand. However, if a US citizen stays in Thailand for more than 180 days in a year, they could be considered a tax resident and may have to file a Thai tax return depending on their income sources, even if that income is from foreign sources. Tax on bank interest and guidelines for declaring income based on source and residency are also discussed. Overall, it is advised to consult a tax professional for personalized advice.

I got the following from Gemini

The "$11k" Thai Exemption for Age 65+

The "$11k" figure you are referring to is not a US exemption, but rather the approximate US dollar equivalent of the combined tax-free thresholds under Thai domestic tax law for senior citizens.

The Senior Exemption: Taxpayers who are 65 years of age or older receive an additional exemption of 190,000 THB.

Put it in the bank in the second half of the tax year so you haven't spent 180 days in that taxable year.

As a US citizen you are absolutely NOT taxed as both countries have a no dual taxation treaty.

ONLY money earned inside of Thailand will be subject to tax in Thailand.

Hope that helps

You will pay VAT at the rate of 7% on most things you spend money on. But it applies to everyone. It has nothing to do with any deposit you hold in a bank, or with your visa status.

This matter is more complex than a one-liner. Sure, if you put 800k THB in a Thai bank account you remitted that money during that tax year. But whether you are taxable during that tax year depends on the length of your stay in that year being more than 180 days. That money being taxable also depends on what its source is (e.g. foreign income: yes - saving from previous times: no). Then, the amount actually taxed would come with tax allowance thresholds. Tax rates are also progressive, i.e. if 800k would be your only taxable foreign income, the effective tax rate would not be 20-25%. Generally speaking, whatever money you remit into (bring into) Thailand in a year that you are taxable (spending more than 180 days), might be taxable, yes. But that depends on the source of that money and meeting certain thresholds. To make things even more complex, Double Tax Agreements (DTA) also play into this - but might maybe also work in your favor when it comes to pension money.

Read WHERE? I've never read, heard of, or seen such a thing. It's a non-issue.
