Hi I am looking for a little bit of advice. I went to Thailand on a SETV Jan '17 and extended for 30 in Krabi. Then went to KL for another SETV in March which I did not extend and left Thailand end May. Since then I have been traveling SEA. I need to be back in Thailand for a dive course mid October at the latest ideally stay until May '18. I'd like to head back there start of August. Some websites talk about only being able to gain 3 SETV per year others contradict this. Any advice appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is seeking advice on obtaining a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) for a dive course in Thailand starting mid-October, after previously using SETVs in 2017. There are conflicting opinions on the number of SETVs allowed in a year, and some commenters provided insights on necessary documentation for entry, as well as alternatives like an Education Visa or Work Permit for the dive course. Recommendations include getting another tourist visa from a consulate before entering Thailand and being prepared with financial proof and onward travel details at immigration.

Thanks Tod and Robert for the advice. I'm doing a dive master course I'm paying for so it'll be a SETV I need and another for my travels when finished. I think I'm going to go to Cambodia for the SETV starting September then go to KL ND penang for subsequent SETVs. I can meet all the requirements for the visa no problem.

Depending on your dive course you need a Education Visa or a Work Permit with Non B visa.

There is no official limit to the number of tourist visas you can have an xxx amount of time. There is a limit to the number of tourist visas a particular thai consulate will sell you in a row before they will stamp your passport with the warning stamp.

Get another tourist visa before you come in and you should be fine. When you do enter be advised that the people at passport control (where you stamp into the country) can ask you to show: proof of adequate funds (20K baht), proof if onward travel (within 60 days) and proof of a hotel booking.
