What are the requirements and processes for obtaining a Thai driving license using an international driving permit (IDP) and a foreign license?

I’m not sure you have the correct IDP

If you have a uk driving licence then you should have the 1968 IDP which covers Thailand and valid for 3 years. If you have this an a valid uk driving licence and a dtv then it’s quite easy to obtain a driving licence

The IDP (in connection with your national dl) is good for 3 months. After that you‘d need a Thai license.

If you don't have a valid license or IDP, it's not as simple as when you have them. We just went through the process as my home license was expired and they simply didn't accept the IDP from our country.

You will have to sit through 5 hours of videos and then take a 50 question test for each license if you are doing both car and bike. There are apps so that you can practice the multiple choice and ace these before you go so that you pass the first time.

Then you do the practical for each.

But in order to be able to apply for them, you have to have a Certificate of Residence and for the CoR you have to have a medical certificate (any little clinic should do one for you and you'll need 2 if you are doing both licenses).

Each MC cost us THB100 each and each CoR cost us THB500 each.

For the CoR, take the MC and your TM30 to immigration - it doesn't take long but you have to have all the documents and I forget what exactly they are (passport photos, copies of your passport, you might have to have your landlord's ID or copy of your lease) so pop in to your closest IO for the correct info on all the docs they need.
