TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling from Thailand to Vietnam by car requires having your own vehicle and ensuring all necessary documents are translated, including the vehicle's number plate. The process typically involves completing requirements at the vehicle center where your vehicle is registered. Additionally, it's noted that the rainy season in Vietnam could impact travel plans.

Has to be your own car. Havent done vietnam but Malaysia and had to have documents translated. Number plate translated and put on vehicle. Did everything required at vehicle center where you do driving test, this was phuket one so no interest to you but probably have to do in province your vehicle is registered in.

Henri Jaru forgot, its actually against the law in Thailand as well law was passed about twenty years ago for the safety of officers at roadblocks etc etc, they just seem to have forgotten about it.
