what are your thoughts on this video?[members only] looks like word on the street is cracking down to DTV
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the potential tightening of requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, reflecting concerns among expats about stricter entry regulations. Commenters express fears that the Thai government may start denying entry to individuals, especially those lacking a clear five-year plan or proof of remote employment. Experiences shared include officials requesting documentation proving legitimate work upon re-entry and worries about increased scrutiny over bank balance requirements. Although some believe that the DTV itself may not be discontinued, there is consensus that the criteria for granting the visa might become more stringent in response to past abuses.

Wondering what happened to soft power dtv holders these days on re-entry.
DTV is the easiest way for people with money to stay and spend their foreign income ... most people cannot qualify as it requires cash in the bank, unlike old school education visas which I think is where they are really cracking down.
I was saying all the time that the DTV is just a tourist visa and was never designed for people to live in Thailand permanently. Yes, it is a multi entry visa and yes you can stay to up to 180 days per entry but that doesn’t mean you should stay the whole 180 days , leave for 1-2 days, return and stay for another 180 days. Those who do it, are clearly abusing the visa and immigration thinks the same and starts asking questions. There will be more and more questions in the future. I’m sure they will ask more and more about the 500k in your bank, about an active Muay Thai or cooking course, proof of remote work and so on. Just mark my words, the visa did not change nothing has changed but the requirements when applying for the visa remain the same also when entering the country and immigration can ask about them at any time
GrayWallaby8130 I love it how the old trolls are always Haha-ing my comments, I think it’s about time you come out from under your rock. And try to think with your brains.
Historically, most Thai visas end up being involved in a crackdown. All it really takes is one high profile incident of criminals using the visa or people being caught using fraudulent documents for there to be more scrutiny on everyone else.
I strongly doubt that the DTV would be fully discontinued but they can change requirements for issuing it and add scrutiny upon re-entry.
UnforgettableRambutan8343 All previous crackdown were due to some IO's not passing down the envelope and taking huge cuts (Volunteer visa, Ed Visa, etc). It was never for any other reason.
I returned today in phuket on dtv and they asked me to show the website I work for, I showed it and also showed the "meet the team" page, with my face on it, and he stamped 6 months....
It's a matter of time before they start denied some people entry on DTV. It's gonna start with people on soft power who obviously can't show a 5 years plan, and it will extend further soon after. I've said it from the start, they want people to use agents for everything these days. Everyone get a cut.
I can see that there are winds blowing towards tightening up the rules for most visas, and entry in general. I remember in 2019 when it was quite similar.
