TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian expat, aged 49, is seeking the best visa options to move to Thailand and is considering whether to wait until he turns 50. The discussion highlights suggestions for obtaining a NON-O visa before age 50 that can later be extended to an OA retirement visa upon turning 50. Comments emphasize the need to be aware of specific financial requirements for the OA visa, including proof of income or sufficient funds in a Thai bank account.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES

Yes, you’ll about 6 months to a year to get all your stuff (and there’s a lot) in order before the big plunge.

Get an ‘O’ visa in your home country that can be then extended (within Thailand) to an ‘OA’ retirement upon your 50th.

That’s a very small hurdle!!!!

David I am just refering to terms used. That he will be extending a NON immigrant O for a year based on retirement. He can't have his O visa "extended (within Thailand) to an ‘OA’ retirement upon your 50th". OA can only be obtained outside of Thailand.

. Your comments are confusing. I got an OA from Hull with no money in a UK bank. I have also extended an O visa in Thailand because of retirement, so I am not sure what you mean?

David an OA visa can only be applied for in your home country. You also need the money in an account in your home country. As he is not 50, he is not eligible for this. So as you mentioned he needs a NON imm O before 50 which can be extended for a year (not to an OA) based on retirement where the money is in a Thai account or income statement.

. Be aware of the financial requirements for an ‘OA’ too. You need proof of income from Embassy (65,000pm). Or 800,000b in your sole Thai bank account for 2 months or combination of both.
