Hello everyone! (Posting anonymous because my family does not know our plans yet.) I am a American and plan to apply for DTV for remote work (plus husband and children as dependents). We hope to travel some in SE Asia before applying and would like to know which specific embassies you all would consider easiest for approval? On our itinerary are Langkawi and Penang Malaysia, Da Nang Vietnam, and Tagbilaran City Philippines, with the possibility of adding Cambodia and/or Laos.

Are any still asking for just 3 months bank statements and have a quick approval record?

Any other embassy you would recommend over these places?

We are open to travel to other places. Just looking for the smoothest and quickest experience possible since we will be traveling with children :) thank you and always appreciate the knowledge this group shares!
Answer summary
An American family is planning to apply for the Thai Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) and seeks advice on the best embassies to apply through while traveling in Southeast Asia. They aim for a quick approval process and inquire about requirements like bank statements. Community responses suggest applying from the U.S. for faster processing, particularly recommending the L.A. embassy for quick approvals. Some warn against applying in countries like Cambodia and Malaysia due to longer processing times and possible rejections. Overall, feedback emphasizes preparing documentation thoroughly and considering the financial requirements for dependents.

Do not apply from Cambodia - generally 4+ weeks and often rejected.

Id go with Vietnam of your options, or add Laos, but you need to allow time for initial applicant and then dependants once that is approved.

3 months minimum for funds.

Personally the initial holder applied in Laos and then dependant in Hanoi a month later. We had no issues.

Anonymous participant I believe parts of the border are closed/heavily restricted.

I've heard numerous reports of questioning at immigration when people have visited Cambodia.

I second what others have said. Apply from your own country. If you apply from another country, you are subjecting your family to at least a month or more waiting and uncertainty. Even then it’s unclear if all will be approved. If you are at home, you can at least wait it out without additional stress of being in a foreign land with their own visa restrictions.

Anonymous participant You are welcome. Thailand will be here until then 🙏🙏. It will be ready whenever you are ready. As for your visa application, my advice is to look thru the eyes of the person ( consular) looking at your application. Keep things as simple as you can and go above the requirements if possible. Requirements are after all the min bar so go above the bar if possible!

More and more are being rejected. Don’t take it lightly. For each member of your family you need roughly 15,000-17,000 USD. Your money needs to be in personal savings or checking accounts for 3-6 months. Once the main person applies, you then apply for the dependents (so each application has a fee and you need the legal documents proving dependent- marriage, birth certificate). For main applicant, letter from HR saying he/she can work remotely in Thailand and you need evidence of work payments into your account. Most embassies in Southeast Asia take 7-15 days for each application, can’t apply for dependents until after. Cambodia is taking 30-40 days

DTV_BegPecker I appreciate you taking the time to type that :) good to know that a savings account is also acceptable. What I've read from other accounts, adult dependents require an additional 500,000 thb, but children under 14 only require sponser letter. Is that not correct? Also, happy to hear most SE Asian embassies are only taking 7-15 days. I've heard mixed answers regarding Penang and Malaysian embassies in general though. Do you know if they are they making it difficult for foreigners to apply?

DTV_BegPecker thanks for that tip! Will definitely stay away from there then :) I wonder what they define as "official sponsorship letter" in place of bank statements 🤔

Apply in the US before you travel is the best option

they have a processing time of 4-6 weeks and with dependents it can take over two months. I am hoping another country will have a faster turn around time.

Anonymous participant You are moving your family to the other side of the world (hopefully you been here a few times). 2 months in preparation is really nothing. If you are rushing to move, I suggest to step back, plan a bit to ensure your best chance of success.

Anonymous participant it's a 5 year visa, losing a couple of weeks isn't going to make a lot of difference

chooserich007 not at all in a rush. We arent planning to move until 2028. Two months isnt long. Im just trying to minimize the amount of time between my approval and dependents approval since technically thats time lost on my on dtv. Plus the time in between approvals makes exit tickets more difficult to plan.

Participante anónimo I was referring to South East Asia embassies/consulates. Some people is approved within days, but it can take up to several weeks, not uncommon. You better apply in your own country.
