How does one go about bringing and/or access enough to rent. Say for round numbers 1st month plus 2 months deposit 100kBaht. Since can’t open bank until I have residence I will have to take out of an ATM that much ? Travel in with that much cash? What is most expeditious way to cover costs before a person is set up.
Answer summary
This post discusses the challenges and solutions for expats in Thailand looking to rent a residence before establishing a local bank account. The user queries about handling upfront rental costs, specifically needing 100,000 Baht for the first month and two months' deposit. The responses suggest various methods such as utilizing international money transfer services like Wise and Western Union, withdrawing cash from ATMs, and direct transfers to the landlord's account, highlighting that it is feasible to manage rent payments without a Thai bank account.

You get the swiftcode from

the landlord and transfer the money. as easy as that… very cheap too with Revolut and maybe Wise…. same as you should pay all your bigger bills each month to save on cost. Very easy to live without a bank account ;)

Wise or a similar platform. Or western union. I have rented 3 places now and have used wise to deposit direct to the landlord bank account

You can go to most bank branches and withdraw out like 60k at a time. Most ATMs that I know only allow 30k

Imagine the difference if Australia followed Thailand and only allowed Australians to own the land. We'd all live well there then

If you had a bank account, how would you get that money from your home country to that bank account? Use that same process but instead of your Thai bank account, you use your landlord’s bank account
