I am looking for a less expensive health insurance option than CIGNA. I have kept CIGNA as it was my insurance company when I was working and kept it into my retirement. It has been ok. I haven't made a claim for years. Also, I rarely return to USA now and already have MEDICARE coverage in USA.

The policy would need to have good catastrophic coverage, worldwide travel except USA, high daily hospitalization rates. A high deductible is ok as I am rarely sick.

Also needs to meet requirements of 10 year wealthy pensioner visa.

I live in Surin Province but if I was ever very ill I would probably go to Bangkok or maybe Korat.

Thanks!
Answer summary
An expat in Thailand is seeking a less expensive health insurance option than CIGNA, looking for good catastrophic coverage, worldwide travel (excluding the USA), and a policy that meets the requirements for a 10-year wealthy pensioner visa. Comments from the community recommend various brokers and alternatives that provide comparable coverage at lower costs, emphasizing the importance of working with an insurance broker to find the best fit for specific needs.

Dropped Cigna for Bangkok Insurance this year. 88% reduction in cost, comparable coverage, qualified for Non OA visa. I agree with the other comments recommending the use of an agent/broker. Cigna International was not the same customer service quality as Cigna USA. That and a proposed 22% increase in premium with no change in coverage made the decision easy.

Hi Ted,

I would reach out to Richard Yates from

. He’s the Health Insurance Broker we used. He was super helpful when I was looking for insurance last year, he will also breakdown the technical jargon and help simply the process.

You need to give your specific requirements to a broker.

The first place to start in *knowing* those requirements.. that means knowing how much hospitals charge for an in-patient room, an ICU room, diagnostic scans, like CT, MRI, PET, endoscopic tests, . and expensive surgery like heart bypass. Many people don't get enough cover and end up paying significant amounts out of their own pocket..... If you have been retired for quite some time, and you get the appropriate level of cover, expect annual premiums to be significant... Many people with Non-O visas choose to self-insure

I've been using wrlife for roughly 3 years they're more reasonably priced than others I have seen also they lock in the premium as long as you don't claim or lapse payments and you can pay monthly

I would hate to be relying on WRLife to pay out into my 60s 70s and 80s and beyond.

Their business model appears to be totally unsustainable, their corporate structure is opaque and based in a bizarre offshore tax-haven, and their ownership/management history is very odd.

To me WRLife looks about as attractive as Bitcoin.

Its best to shop around and compare providers.

Speak with pete at
****************************************

They offer a free comparison service where you can see all providers in one place and compare prices, cover type etc much better than contacting individual providers.

Any new policy may have exclusions that are currently covered by Cigna, you will need to be very careful as a new policy excludes any and all conditions previously claimed with Cigna, where as Cigna continues to cover them as they occurred during your policy. If you have high blood pressure or cholesterol, or overweight then you will likely not be covered for stroke, heart attack etc etc.
