AMERICAN GETTING STUDENT VISA, SHOULD I GET DEPENDENT VISA FOR MY AMERICAN WIFE OR TOURIST VISA INSTEAD?
Dear Digital; Nomad Coffee Club, I'm a mature American going to Vientiane on July 8th to apply for my Ed visa. I have the correct application paperwork provided by a reputable school from Ministry of education here in Chiang Mai. My American wife just arrived with a 30 day. The school also offers a service to provide necessary dependent spouse papers to bring to the Thai consulate in Vientiane for her for an 8000 baht service fee. Perhaps a simpler route would be better. She is going back to the states in only 3 months to visit family. Perhaps it would be easier to apply for a 2 month tourist visa for her and then get her a one month extension instead. What do you think? Thank you in advance! - Guy Monroe :-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American expatriate is seeking advice on whether to apply for a dependent visa for his wife while he applies for his education (ED) visa in Vientiane, or if it would be more practical for her to obtain a tourist visa. The conversation touches upon the costs and choices between a dependent visa service offered by a school or applying for a simpler tourist visa, along with potential visa extensions.

Sorry to close commenting on this post but it seems as if you want someone to tell you that it's okay to pay a school 8000 baht to get a 2000baht visa from the thai consulate in Vientiane and no matter how you slice it, that just isn't right.:/ Only you can make that decision..
you're out nothing having your wife apply for a single entry tourist visa then get a 30 day extension.
In fact it might be easier for her to get a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to someone on a long term visa/extension in the US after you have your ED visa and you get the school to write a letter stating that they don't have a problem with a consulate issuing a 90 day Non-O to her while you're on an ED visa from them..
Remember though IF you have an appointment for her to get a Non-Immigrant Type visa in Vientiane, she can't apply for a tourist visa without canceling the appointment and making a new booking. they are pretty hard core about it at the gate..
you posted about this, you were given answers about this, AND I private messaged you about this as well. Asking againg is NOT going to get you more answers than you had.
