TLDR : Answer Summary
As of now, Thailand is not open without the Thailand Pass. Most comments indicate that while there are ongoing discussions about potentially dropping the Thailand Pass, it remains a requirement for entry. Speculation suggests possible changes around June or July, with hopes that restrictions might be further eased by then. Travelers currently still require the Thailand Pass for entry into Thailand, primarily for proof of vaccination and travel insurance.

I thought you could enter Thailand on a VOA now? Do you still need to apply for the Thailand pass before entering

, Have mine already approved (for 23rd of June) for my holiday trip to the Netherlands 1st to 23rd of June. So maybe I don't need it anymore the 23rd 😉

British citizens don’t get Visa on Arrival, they do get a visa exempt entry valid for 30 days. Pedantic, but a VOA is different and only valid for 15 days.

Currently everyone needs a ThailandPass whether they have a visa or not.

OK, so I need to apply for that online right? How far in advance?

most reports are saying they’re getting them back within a few hours now. But you can apply 30 days out (possibly more).

It means nothing anymore. Copy photo page passport, insurance and vaccination certificate. Last week 8 AM started on my mobile phone and sent it 8:20 AM. Got approved back at 1 PM. Used gmail mail addres and all uploads in .jpg format.

What I read concerning the removal of the Thailand Pass, is that the removal is planned for Thai nationals per 1st of June. 1st August also for foreigners. BUT these are only plans. Absolutely nothing sure yet.

Indeed. Let's hope it stays that way. BTW the Thai Enquirer article you posted is full of holes. Does no one ever do any fact checking? The article claims the quarantine for unvaccinated was reduced to 5 days in May. This is nonsense. It was reduced to 5 days on April 1 and since May 1, 99.9% of unvaccinated travelers (meaning anyone holding a negative PCR test) can enter quarantine free. Only those unable to secure a PCR test before departure who must travel to Thailand in May and can put up with a 5-day forced quarantine will do so.

Anyway, let's see what the next meeting on May 20 holds. I really hope common sense will take hold and nearly all restrictions are dropped in June, with the few remaining ones being scrapped in July.

There have been endless speculations made and this topic will continue to attract speculation for weeks to come. My point is simply that July 1 is still the target but let's wait until the May 20 meeting to see what is decided for June and then we'll know where things are likely to be headed.

The reason being the MOPH has this intention (see attached infographic) and also, July 1 is the target date for "endemic" status. Of course it's too early to say for sure whether this will happen, but it's still likely. Just today the Covid alert level has been downgraded to level 3 from level 4 and in recent days the government has repeatedly said that July 1 is still on track for endemic status.

In other words, I believe there will still be some restrictions in place during June (though fewer than this month) but it could well be that things will be back to normal by July 1, rather than end of July.

Thanks for this article, however, I believe as it stands it's still tentatively July 1 not end of July despite what this article states.

They are saying will drop the pass for Thai people coming into Thailand first so that probably be June 1st the rest or us will have to wait. Maybe July 1st for foreign. Its Thailand who can ever guess what they will decide.

Good point. So do you think the government will scrap the Thailand Pass for all at the same time, either June 1 or July 1 perhaps? Or whenever it happens, it will be for all arrivals at the same time right?

can never say/tell for sure

all speculation, only the PM & CSA will decide & announce but most theorize that if the “ numbers” continue to decrease & tourist entries continue to increase but def not to current projections, then perhaps as early as June1

They did surprise us by scrapping quarantines on the unvaccinated on May 1 and also post arrival ATK testing for all, one month earlier than announced so I guess they might surprise us again at the May 20 CCSA meeting.

It may or may not happen that it's dropped for Thais first. If it is, does it mean that Thais will just need a passport to enter the country no more testing for unvaccinated or vaccine proof for the vaccinated?

Let's hope so. In the meantime, we're just going to have to wait until May 20th, then we'll know what they've decided. Just hope they won't flip flop due to this new scariant the WHO is tracking.

Thailand reopened it's borders May 1 including with Laos. However, only Lao border pass holders can travel to Thailand without a Thailand Pass but only stay 3 days 2 nights in the province they entered. If entering from Nong Khai, travel to Udon Thani is also permitted.

An announcement on the future of the Thailand Pass will be made May 20. Until then we're just going to have to wait.

Yes. Even for one day. Do you also hold a Lao passport? If so, once you're in Laos you can come back to Thailand without a Thailand Pass for short stays up to 3 days even under the present rules. Otherwise, you'll definitely need to deal with the Thailand Pass unless it's canceled by the time you come.
