Is it better to apply for a 6-month or 9-month DTV visa for cooking classes in Thailand from the NYC embassy?

DTV Soft Power Length for NYC Embassy

Hi everyone,

I am getting ready to apply for my DTV. I wanted to initially start out with 6-month visa for soft power cooking classes, and look to either renew that for another six months or do Muay Thai. Does anyone have any experience applying from the New York embassy with only a 6 month course initially? The program I am looking at for cooking classes is telling me I should just sign up for their 9 month or 1 year program. Thanks!
Answer summary
A user is considering applying for a 6-month DTV visa for cooking classes in Thailand but is advised by commenters to opt for a 9-month or 1-year program instead. Experiences shared indicate mixed outcomes with previous 6-month approvals, suggesting a trend where longer courses may be favored by schools and embassies for stability and renewal purposes.

I not understand what you want.

a 6 months visa and than renew with another purpose is NOT going to work with a DTV.

The visa is valid for 5 years,

If you want a 6 months visa apply for the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa.

I got approved in 4 days after signing up for 6 month course from NYC embassy but that was last year. Since they are cracking down all around, I would follow advice of the school and sign up for longer.

My husband did 6 month cooking class through House of taste. He applied April 27th and just got approved June 12th. Ny embassy took 6 weeks to approve. My son also got approved with 6 months Tiger eye muay thai. Seems like more schools are suggesting going for the 9 months.

it is a mixed bag at this time... regarding the number of months, with changes in the wind. And to hedge against getting the METV multiple entry tourist visa, which with planning can get you up to 8 months stay in Thailand with 2 simple border bounces, it's BEST to enroll in a soft power activity of 9 or 12 months.

Do yourself a BIG FAVOR... follow the advice of the Cooking school..

Sign up for 9 or 12 months.

Why not just follow the advice from the school and go for 9 months or a year?

Or just do 6 months cooking class on METV and after that 6 months decide what to do?
