TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats on a DTV visa inquire about the difficulty of obtaining a Tax ID in Thailand and the requirements for tax payment, especially if they stay longer than six months. Participating commenters highlight that Tax IDs cannot be obtained from banks but rather through local revenue offices. It is noted that while some find the process straightforward, others express doubt regarding the necessity of paying taxes if income is sourced from outside Thailand. The conversation emphasizes the complexities of Thai tax law and the conditions under which foreign income may be taxed.

For those who get steamed about people who choose to go anon, I hope this post enlightens you as to why people choose to go anon
Bob **********
If it’s that hard why do you want to pay tax??if they want it they’ll let you know

You don’t get your Tax ID from banks. You can get on on DTV
Siggi *******
You don't have to pay tax in Thailand if your income source is not Thailand
Pete *******
@Siggi ******
incorrect.

@Pete ******
nobody knows, not even the tax office and the government. You are the lucky one who knows it. So i thought myself I knew.

@Rok *******
nobody knows what?

@Pete ******
whether to pay the tax in Thailand … nobody knows.
Pete *******
@Rok *******
silly statement, Thai tax law determines liability.
Rok ********
@Pete ******
a lot of flip flopping, nobody is sure. I make sure i am in the country less than 183 days.
Pete *******
@Rok *******
what will that do as at that point you will already have become Thai tax resident?
Siggi *******
@Pete ******
of course you don't need, what you want to bet?
Pete *******
@Siggi ******
merely repeating a factually incorrect statement doesn’t make it true. Try reading Thai tax law, in particular section 40, 41 and 56 of the Revenue Code.

@Pete ******
just because it's a law doesn't make it not retarded and illogical. Thai law is riddled with self-contradictions. Top that off with moronic incompetent policymakers like the retarded Pheu Thai party and you yourself a clown show mess. That's what we're seeing happening now with all the retard policies as of late.
Pete *******
@Sameer *******
your opinion is irrelevant. The fact is that Thailand taxes foreign sourced remitted assessable income of its tax residents.
Chris ******
@Pete ******
how can they know your income if they won't give you a bank account?

By the amount of money you transfer into Thailand

A Thai tax filing is a self declaration.

Why tf would you pay income taxes where you are a perpetual visitor with zero rights or benefits?
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 708 Zero rights? No benefits?

You don't use Thai infrastructure?

You still live like the caveman?
Sameer ********
@Luit ****************
money printing is the number one funder of all government activities
Sameer ********
@Luit ****************
they already print enough money to do that
Luit *****************
@Sameer *******
So you just don't want to pay your fair share, some people just are parasites.
Sameer ********
@Luit ****************
if you want to see what parasites look like, go visit the central bank and money printers
Sameer ********
Anonymous participant 708why tf would you want to pay taxes at all anywhere? Taxation IS theft and government IS slavery. The government already prints infinite amounts of money at will, and they are already robbing your wealth/purchasing power through said inflation and infinite money printing. To top it off, they are funding wars and all kinds of psychopathic nonsense. Taxation is theft.
Luit *****************
@Sameer *******
People not paying tax, force others to pay for them, I think you better can call that theft

If I still have Tax ID and bank account from my last visa... Everything keeps like that, right? Or new visa new application?... I guess my bank account until I don't need them they won't know that my visa is different... 😅
Greg ********
@Felipe *******
They will only know your visa has changed if you update address cetc. Happened with mine earlier this year - they took copies again and had to fill out forms (Not DTV)
Felipe ********
@Greg *******
but if I don't need to go to the bank...? Even I charged from many condos, I still have the old address for them.. I never receive any letter or post from them so I don't care to update the address or whatever to update, that's what I meant... Don't step a feet in the bank while I'm in a DTV.. 😅

You'll keep the same TIN.

your TIN doesn’t change.

Super easy, took me 3 days to get my ID. Use a lawyer.

even better.

You can find all the details and information on how to request your Personal Tax Identification Number (TIN) and on how to file your taxes on the website of the Revenue Department.

As previously mentioned by others you must request the TIN with your local revenue office.

Instructions on how to apply for your TIN:

Banks are very reluctant to issue Tax ID numbers! 😂😂😂😂. Probably because they're issued by Thailand Revenue Office!
Andrew ********
Search bar my friend.

You won’t be getting a bank account.

Also likely you won’t be paying tax here.
Anonymous ******************
@Andrew *******
why? Of course you'll be paying tax here after 6 months
Elías ****************
Participante anónimo 459 nope, not if you don't remit any money
Siggi *******
Anonymous participant 459 first don't post under hidden name, you know nothing about Thailand, you don't have to pay tax if you are not employed in Thailand
Anonymous ******************
@Siggi ******
That's wrong... You will have to on remitted money to Thailand (amounts depend on treaties, etc.)
Siggi *******
Anonymous participant 545 I don't have to hide under anonymous post, I transfer since 12 years money into Thailand and never ever any tax and never will be. You can't tax income without give right to the tax payers and this risk Thailand will never do.
Mark ********
@Siggi ******
Not quite correct. Thailand isn't a "tax haven" so any money you bring into the country is subject to taxation if you're here for more than 180 days in the calendar year. I say "subject" to tax, because it's possible for several reasons that tax won't be payable in Thailand, but money brought in might still have to be declared
Pete *******
@Mark *******
replace “money” with “assessable income” and you make a correct statement.
Mark ********
@Pete ******
I didn't want to confuse him further by using long words
Pete *******
@Siggi ******
another incorrect statement.

Anonymous participant 459 also if you want to see something more legit.

Anonymous participant 459 how many expats do you think actually think pay taxes here? All your income is going into a foreign account and no work is being done in Thailand itself on a dtv. How do you think Thailand even tracks your income? Be logical here. Thailand can barely even tax its own citizens properly much less foreigners.
Pete *******
You will find it impossible to get a bank to issue you a Tax Identification Number as they are issued by your local Revenue Office.
Steve *******
You just have to go to your local tax revenue office and ask. This is Thailand, there are no routines or rules that all branches follow.

@Steve ******
so true!
