TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of obtaining a Thai Tax Identification Number (TIN) for expats generally requires a visit to the local Revenue office, where applicants need to provide their passport and proof of address. Some users have reported completing the process in about 10 minutes with no fees involved. However, there are discussions about tax obligations related to the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) holders, emphasizing that becoming a tax resident after 180 days does not necessarily mean one must file taxes unless they have assessable income. It's also noted that DTV holders may not have to file tax returns.

DTV holders don't have to submit tax returns

Just because you become a tax resident does not mean you owe, or have to file taxes on a DTV. You are on a tourist visa, and tourists don't file taxes no matter what anyone tells you.

Correct. The latest presentation from Carl Turner at Expat Tax Thailand actually confirms this

RadiantButterfly205 Then as other have said go to local Revenue Department and ask for a TIN. 180 days plus assessable income and they will give you a TIN

Passport and proof of address, in and out in 10 minutes at local Revenue Office. No fee.

The Chief Police Guy interviewed by Carl Turner has stated DTV holders do not have to pay tax

Anonymous participant 186 I was in that webinar and he never said that. DTV holders remitting assessable income will attract a Thai tax liability.

You have to go in person to the local Revenue office. I already have one from when I was working in my business previously, so I haven't done it as a DTVer, but here are the instructions found online
