How did I successfully obtain a DTV visa for medical treatments including Botox and testosterone therapy in Thailand?

Approved in Los Angeles - DTV soft power medical for botox and wellness treatment

Documents submitted:

- 1 month most recent bank statement showing at least 560k THB and a screenshot of bank balance on day of submission

- Photo of passport bio page

- Photo of US drivers license to prove location

- Current photo of myself

- Appointment slip (handwritten) showing 3 scheduled appointments for botox over the next 6 months at a beauty clinic and stamped with their legal ID number

- Appointment letter showing the initial appointment for bloodwork at a wellness clinic. I intend to start testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) here

- Appointment letter from Bangkok Hospital for a scheduled comprehensive physical including screening for common cancers and treatment for high BP

Timeline: 25 February - 11 April

The embassy’s only request for further documentation was that I should submit a confirmation to change my visa type from DTV to multi entry tourist visa (METV). I was also informed by the embassy via email that cosmetic procedures and physical checkups do not qualify for DTV. I then decided to submit a 1 page cover letter to explain the details of my treatment plans and why I believed these activities would satisfy the true purpose of DTV. 6 weeks later I was approved!

I fully expected a rejection and figured the $400 application fee I paid would be a loss. But I think the cover letter I submitted in response to the embassy’s initial request provided more clarity and helped my overall case for DTV.

I chose to pursue the soft power medical option because these are real ongoing activities I intend to continue doing in Thailand. I didn’t want to pay for expensive packages for activities I’m not interested in just to get the DTV.

Hopefully my experience provides some value to people in this group!

TLDR : Answer Summary
I successfully obtained a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for cosmetic and wellness treatments after submitting several documents including bank statements, appointment letters, and a cover letter explaining the relevance of my treatment plans. Initially, I was informed by the embassy that cosmetic procedures did not qualify for DTV, but my cover letter provided clarity, resulting in visa approval six weeks later. This experience highlights the importance of clear communication and documentation when applying for visas in Thailand.

Congrats. Incidentally, how did you take a screenshot of your bank balance? None of my (4) banking apps allow screenshots to be taken. Testosterone treatment - I've heard good things about these but apparently you have to take it up the bum once a week.

I’m able to take a screenshot. Alternatively you should be able to print, save or download your recent bank transactions which also shows your current balance and then just save it as a pdf file. TRT can be administered as an injection in the hip or a patch.

This is getting absurd…

If they keep giving people these visas for the most absurd reasons it’s just a matter of time before they axe the entire program.

I think a lot of people think they can use the visa legally for 5 years when they only have activities of 6 months.

Of course the visa is only valid as long as the purpose of stay still is valid.

The OP specified a planned longer treatment, for as long as that treatment lasts I think Thailand is happy, not everything needs to be highly specialistic.

I think the people only having a relative short soft power activity who after ther activity still coming illegally in Thailand will be maore a reason to axe this visa or to implement more checks.

Perhaps you would feel happier if I was granted DTV for something more serious like brain surgery or a spinal cord fusion? Maybe getting a coronary artery bypass graft would be a great way for me to engage in Thai cultural experiences? Sorry to disappoint you Na 🙏🏻

it's absurd on how thailand is trying to milk out tourist in any possible way. I remember that back 20yrs ago people could just get a 3 entry tourist visa for 70us$. That was 9 months of staying. Then it was possible to go pretty much anywhere and get another 3 entry visa and keep going on. But let's keep blaming on tourists. Same as what is happening in phuket, they are destroying the island for $$$ but instead of saying no, they get the money from foreigners and then blame on them for destroying the island....

Count your blessings in obtaining the DTV visa... especially from the Los Angeles Thai Consulate. Frankly, I'm surprised by the medical reason for the DTV. And the METV multiple entry tourist visa they were considering issuing was what we have seen from other Embassy's and Consulates...ie Washington DC recently. Enjoy your life in Thailand 🤗

I was surprised too, so that makes two of us. Given their communication with me prior to my approval I expected a rejection or METV. I’m happy with the outcome. Thank you!

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

Congrats on the nature of the letter, and sticking to your guns. Please explain exactly how you convincingly approached your treatment plan in the letter as being better suited to the DTV.

Some of the appointment letters were a little vague, so I just explained what exactly the treatment is and tests involved. I praised Thailand’s medical facilities and doctors based on my own past experience. That I planned to immerse myself in Thailand’s culture through my activities, which I believed was MoFA’s purpose for creating DTV. The letter was detailed but concise and non-condescending. I kindly asked to be granted DTV and thanked the embassy for the opportunity.
