TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats have successfully obtained the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) under the freelancer category, sharing various experiences and tips. A successful applicant highlighted the importance of providing official documents, such as business registration, bank statements, and tax filings. Another user suggested considering alternative categories, like Soft Power – Muay Thai, if the freelancer application is rejected, as these may be processed faster. Overall, thorough documentation and understanding the right visa category are crucial for a successful application.
I successfully got my DTV as a freelancer. Here's my approval post, hope it's helpful to you.

I’m a freelance writer with a registered sole proprietorship in Singapore. Sent in all the official documents showing registration in my name, bank statements in my name and tax filings in my name. DTV in January, no problems and have been in and out of Phuket/Bangkok at least once a month since without any issues.

Anonymous participant 258 understandable. I was actually considering doing it all online. The E-Visa option. Haven’t seen as much people posting about online applications as I thought I would tho

Mine was done online as well, at the Jakarta embassy.

Anonymous participant 258 yes Jakarta appears to be a popular embassy. I know there’s definitely agency’s that are more strict than others

Anonymous participant 258 great news! Congratulations 🙌
I have everything except tax documents unfortunately. Australian citizen here.
I’m not sure if that’s necessary but I had it all on me so my strategy was just to drown the guy processing my visa in official paperwork 😅. Guess it worked.

That is why previous posts are available to search.
thank you for the passively patronising response. I’m new to the group and just using it how I felt it was made to be used, and that’s to have discussions with other people in similar situations about everything to do with DTV.
But thank you for your “advice” it’s just hard to scroll through dozens of daily posts to find information silently that are specific to me. That would be like buying a lottery ticket.

And as with any other group, you start by familiarizing yourself with the group, and SEARCH it, before repeting the same questions again and again.
And had you read the group regularly since you joined, you would allready have known the answer.
And you would have experienced, that all is Embassy specific, so you ask a impossible question to answer.
you don’t actually need to comment on my post if it’s bothering you 🙂 it’s a nice day outside. I would suggest a nice activity rather than getting yourself upset over things on Facebook. All the best to you.

I applied under the freelancer category first time and got rejected. After that, I reapplied under the Soft Power – Muay Thai category and it was approved within a week.
If you’re having trouble with the freelancer route, it might be worth looking into the soft power categories depending on your profile. It seems they process those much quicker.
thank you 🙏 yep I own 2 businesses in Australia and they’ve been registered for 14 years. But I am a freelancer. But yep registered 14 years. So I’m guessing this is good!
thanks heaps! I really appreciate the help and the kind attitude 😊

I definitely can’t provide my tax information unfortunately because under the ATO there’s been a shift in the way tax and superannuation is managed by people in my line of work as of July 1st of this year so it’s a tricky situation unfortunately
You don't have to provide tax info to get approved. I offered my tax docs when I applied (Taipei) in person, but they refused to take them as they don't use them for approval. Many other freelancers in various embassies also approved without submitting tax info
It was a bit nerve racking as when i applied it was same day approval and Taipei is among the strictest embassies for approval. They are very much about evidence of income, business registration, Taipei was among the most popular embassies at the time, so I used a lot of posts to help my application, If they by chance request tax info then you just explain why you can not provide them, there are many genuine reasons why tax docs cannot be submitted so it is not mandatory
thank you to both of you again. So in saying all of this. Is there really any major reason I shouldn’t just apply with soft power? Like Muay Thai? (I would never go to it tho lol)
If you do the SP route, there is the risk of being asked to show proof of continued activity even with a border bounce. Although not many have been asked so far.. With workcation, no need to pay for a course to remain. .You are all set for Workcation though with your background.
well, your last statement is the reason haha. But the reality is that you've already got a foundation set up for approval (your business). I see no reason for you to try and build an entirely new foundation centered around something you wouldn't actually do (Muay Thai). Just speaking from experience, I was very worried and impatient while waiting for my DTV. But it wasn't really all that bad, and finally a bit frictionless. You can't go wrong by providing too much in my opinion.
