TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a long-term visa or a student visa in Thailand, you should first contact a recognized school or university to arrange enrollment, as this is essential for a student visa. Institutions like CMULI in Chiang Mai and Alongkorn Language School are recommended for their visa support. Additionally, reaching out to a visa agent or the Thai Visa Centre can provide further guidance and assistance in the visa application process.

My advice is to check out CMULI in Chiang Mai. I'm not sure if they're only hiring graduates of their TEFL program.

Their visa support is excellent.

As a TEFL graduate there, I was offered employment, visa etc. The class is only about 3 to 4 weeks, and would be invaluable if you have never taught in Thailand. The professors are top-notch.

So is it like I finish this course, become an accredited English language teacher, and apply for some employment myself as an English teacher?

Thank you very much.

Oh, I forgot to mention; half or more of the graduates take their TEFL to teach in other countries! The certificate is said to hold good status, in Asean nations, as well as China, Korea. Don't quote me though.

The choices I had was: take an in-house teaching position at the institute, and at a slightly lower salary. The second option was being posted by the institute, outside of the city of Chiang Mai. That could be 30 or more km away. There's pros-cons to those two choices, but, obviously, working in CM is preferred; unless you want the teach-in-small-village job. It's sort of akin to the Peace Corps "feel". That latter used to pay about 29k plus per diem. Not including, the mid-break; you'll need to take up side work at local English accademies, online teaching.

Employment and standard wages might be an issue if you're of Asian decent, and not from a Western Country. Speaking from experience.

Thank you. Do they offer long term visa?

Not sure you can class a student visa as long term unless you study at a university. How long are you looking to stay?

I plan to stay for at least 1 year, 2 years would be great.

if you're happy and able to study at university level then you could easily get 2 years or longer out of an ED visa. But if you're just looking for a visa with little intention of studying you are going to struggle

I can study a language or sth related to my career.

@Cherry ****
then you will be unlikely to get more than a year out of it but speak to the place you plan to study with

You’d need to contact a school to arrange a student visa. Other long term stuff you’d probably be best to speak to an agent. Ask

what they can do to help.
