TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and pay taxes in Thailand while holding a DTV soft power visa. However, discussions in the comments suggest that many foreigners try to minimize taxes and may not pay any due to double taxation agreements.

can you proof the exact amount of money that you remitted to thailand in 2024? thats what you would be taxed on minus potential double taxation agreements. so most people wont pay any tax.

I have a DTV but am not liable to pay tax in Thailand. There is no one yet paying taxes under the DTV as the policy on paying it is not finalised. You can get a TIN from your local tax office, but you will not start paying tax yet. You can find posts on the main DTV Facebook page of DTVERS going to the tax office. If you are living of income from savings before 2024 then you are not liable to pay tax, a recent DTVER was told by the tax office.

Yep, many are unaware of the legal means to limit tax or think they have to pay it. The tax office itself is not fully sure of what to do and turning some away who have come to register.

Why are you so keen to pay tax? I've spent my whole life trying to legally minimise tax, and now in Thailand I see so many foreigners desperate to pay tax! What am I missing?

In that case it suits you, which is great. Everyone's situation is different. I retain Australian Tax Residency as the concessions I get for my investments far outweigh any advantage in changing tax residency

You only pay Thai taxes in money you bring or transfer into the country. You can try and have your pre-tax earnings paid directly into your Thai bank account, but your home country might claim tax authority first

The same jail people get for paying bribes to immigration officers via visa agents to obtain bogus visas? The same jail people get for riding motorcycles unlicensed and with no helmet? The same jail people get for buying fake designer bags and watches? Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Excuse me whilst I spend the next ten minutes ROFLing! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

removed his post as soon as he realised how idiotic it was. Seemed to think anyone not paying tax will be arrested and jailed! πŸ˜‚
