Good Morning all, quick question, i am on a Non OA which is due extension in November. one of the requirements is to have Medical insurance, does it matter which company i use?
Answer summary
The original poster is seeking clarification on whether the specific company chosen for medical insurance matters when extending their Non OA visa in Thailand. Several commenters note that the insurance must be from an approved provider that meets certain coverage requirements. It's advised to check the list of approved insurers, as having health insurance is a prerequisite for the extension. Some participants also suggest switching to a Non O visa, which does not require health insurance, depending on the individual's circumstances and health condition.

If your funds permit I would definitely change to "Non O" instead of your Non OA.

Because it doesn't require health insurance.

After a certain age over here if you have serious pre-existing conditions you will find it ALMOST impossible to get insurance for less than the cost of a Non O and remember that 800,000baht is still yours in your own Thai Bank Account.

Effectefly self insuring on a pay as you go basis. You will find treatment at a local hospital VERY good and Very cheap. I have soo many pre-existing conditions that insurance is not even offered to me,,, at ANY cost.

Good luck.

Ray Taylor totally agree. Beaten it twice and cost through medical insurance was £4000 every 3 weeks for 18 months so understand the issues

OP
Ray Taylor hi Ray. I have the bank funds already in Thai bank and have engaged an agent to help as they all say I need to fly out and re-enter after applying for the Non O. It’s an option. Have used the local hospitals and they are efficient and cheap. But if cancer returns it will be expensive

Pete Smith Thanks for your reply. I am 77 now and in pretty good health,,,, apart from all my pre-existing conditions, which are all controlled effectively with my existing medication from our local hospital.

Under the circumstances, if I ever got anything serious that needed expensive treatment then I think I would just have to say goodbye and be grateful for the Life I have already lived, rather than emptying my Bank Account on treatment which is probably not going to work at my age anyway. 🙏🤔🙏

Ray Taylor but the "funds" are the same for a Non-O extension (800k and 1900B)

Sorry to totally disagree, but you are NOT correct.

The Non O retirement visa IS The Holy Grail of Retirement Visas. Full Stop. 😀😀😀

I'm sorry to disagree, but if you want to live here permanently,,,,, As permanent is in Thailand that is. Then the only,

/Easiest visa to remain here in Thailand is without a doubt The Retirement Visa based on Non O immigration.

If you can afford to stash 800,000.Baht. then this is definitely the away to go.

Then you did not have an OA. The op already has an OA, they don't get a choice about it, agent or not.

Colin Hastie hooray but that is not what the OP was asking for

It must be an approved policy (meeting the coverage requirements) from the list of approved companies.
