I am a US citizen and my wife is a Chinese passport holder. Does she also need to show 500k thb when applying as dependent or how does it work?
Answer summary
A US citizen is asking if their Chinese spouse needs to show a bank balance of 500,000 THB when applying for a dependent visa in Thailand. The comments suggest that if the wife applies independently, she would need the 500,000 THB in her account, but if the husband sponsors her, they collectively need to show 1 million THB (500,000 each). Additionally, if applying as a dependent, she would need to submit evidence of her husband's DTV visa and their marriage certificate. There are regulations about applying from her home country, which is China in this case.

She will also have to apply from China if not a permanent resident elsewhere in the world and will need a police clearance certificate.

If your wife is applying independently, yes she need to have 500k Baht in her account, funds must be at least 6mos (to be safe) bcz some asks for 6mos SOA .... If you will apply DP DTV for your wife, you need to have 1m (500k Baht for each of you).

So I would need 1mil for 3 months? Is this confirmed true just want to be sure. Also is the financial requirements all that’s needed? She doesn’t have to show proof of work or anything else

Follow-up question: how do they deal with mixed nationalities and dependants now that you have to apply from your home country?

GivingPersimmon1136 Generally people have to apply from a country where they are a citizen or a legal permanent resident. Certain Embassies may extend that criteria to certain long term visa holders but that will depend on the jurisdiction.

In this case, if OP’s wife has a US Green Card that’d make her a permanent resident and thus able to apply in the US.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 Thank you. So mixed citizenship couples without the equivalent of a green card/permanent stay in the partners country could probably not be dependents anymore.

GivingPersimmon1136 - you can apply under the dependent category, you just have to apply via your own embassy. Thinks something people get wrong. When you apply as a dependent category, your not applying as an “add on”. - you are making your own unique application (anywhere) with the evidence that you are a dependent of someone else who has a DTV, so you attach a copy of their DTV, and your marriage certificate.

No, she doesn't need to have 500k in her account, you can sponsor her but in that case you need 1 million for both of you

No you just have to make a letter saying that assets are yours (both of you)
