Hello there 😊.

I am flying back to Bangkok tomorrow. Do I need to show a return ticket if the airline asks for it? I already have my e-boarding pass, so I shouldn’t have to interact with them, but I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When flying to Bangkok, whether you need to show a return ticket depends on the airline's specific requirements. While having an e-boarding pass allows for online check-in, gate staff may still request proof of a return or onward ticket and a valid visa.

No. You do need to show your visa though.

not necessarily. I’d go straight to the gate, if they want to see your visa they will call you up

Well, normally I would show them my visa at the check-in counter and not be hassled again afterwards. It does depend on your situation; basically, you should be prepared to show it again though it shouldn't happen.

You literally have to check-in at the counter, drop your bag and that's where you show your visa.

the poster literally says he already checked in online and doesn’t need to interact with them (no bag)

not if you don't have any bags to check in and did the process online or at one of the self service kiosks.

That said, often if flying international and the country has visa requirements, you can get a notification that online and kiosk check-in is not possible and you need to go to the counter.

In any case, ground staff can request to see the visa at any point in the airport, be it check in counter or gate counter, there is no "definitive location".

You do. I've never come across an international flight where I didn't have interaction with a check-in agent. Even bag drop for internet check-ins have an agent which then checks your passport and visa.

Possibly. Just have it inside your passport. It's something you should show when you check-in.

At which step? When boarding? Thanks

Depends upon the airline. Checking-in online or at airport totems does not avoid this requirement (if applicable). Boarding gate staff know how you’ve checked-in and can (and do) stop you at the gate and ask for sight of; return/onward ticket or, ‘some sort of visa’.

with air asia, depart from Indonesia 😊👍

I have flown regularly with Air Asia, but only internally within Thailand. I don’t know if they would ask you or not. However, you should have your DTV to show on your phone and also printed out. That would satisfy any requirement for ‘some type of visa’.

i also have flown a lot with them and always had my « documents » checked at the checkin desk or nothing at all as long as i had a eBoarding pass. Anyway, i got my DTV printed out if necessary 😊👍
