Do I need a Non-B visa for a job interview in Thailand, or is a SETV or 30-day visa exemption sufficient?

If I am to travel to Thailand for a job interview, do I need to apply for a Non-B visa right away or should I just apply for a SETV? Or is it enough with a 30-day visa exemption? Can it be changed into a Non-B visa within Thai borders if I happen to secure the job or do I need to fly to a neighbouring country in order to apply for one?

I'm a Swedish passport holder.

TLDR : Answer Summary
As a Swedish passport holder, you do not need a visa to attend a job interview in Thailand; you can enter on a visa exemption for 30 days. If you secure the job, you can apply for a Non-B visa, but you may need to travel to a neighboring country to do so. Alternatively, you can apply for a Smart Visa or a SETV (Single Entry Tourist Visa), which allows for a longer stay and can be converted into a Non-B visa if the employer provides the necessary documentation.

Get the job first before you spend money on the visa

No insult meant but confirm the job first

Just my opinion

But it is your choice

No offence meant

You do not need a visa for an interview

But it’s your decision

What happens if you do not get the job?

All the paperwork will be wasted

Have the interview first

I you get the job then you can make visa arrangements after

As I understand I need to leave Thailand to get a Non-B if I don't arrive with a SETV first. That will cost me a lot more rather than getting the SETV in the first place.
Darren ********
i understand

But you can come for holiday. Have the interview.

Then get your visa

If you don’t get the job

Its a waste of money

Have the interview first

Then decide about the visa

Just trying to help

The visa fee is only 600 SEK, around €60. I just want to make the entire process as correct as possible.

Visa on arrival, not sure but Swedish but 30 days I guess. For a nonb visa you can request it in your local immigration office in Thailand with more of 21 days left on your visa. So if the company has all the doc and gives you the work permit you dont have to leave the country. I hope it helps.

No Visa on Arrival, that is only for 21 countries, cost 2.000 Thb and gives 15 days Admitted to Stay. With Swedish passport he can get the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry. In Bangkok you need 15 days left on your stay, not 21 days like in Chang Mai, so that is depending where is job interview is. Only a Work Permit is not enough to get the Non Immigrant B inside the country.

Good for you!

It's not a teaching position. :)

I was just about to ask.

Depends on the job too. I strongly suggest that people only work in an international school now. The pay at government schools is terrible.

You can come in with the SETV and get an Admitted to Stay for 60 days on it. If the company is willing to hire you, they have to first apply for the Work Permit and than if they can meet the requirements for the Non Immigrant B visa at Immigration. Or if the can not meet the requirements they will give you the papers to apply at nearby Thai Embassy or Consulate.

@Robert ******
Ok. I will apply for SETV then. Thank you for the immediate and adequate advice!
Robert *******
You can extend these 30 days with another 30 days at Immigration but that cost 1.900 Thb, the SETV cost 1.000 Thb and will give you 60 days, possible extension with 30 days.
Robert *******
You need in Bangkok at least 15 days left on your Admitted to Stay period, other places 21 days. Only 30 days, job interview, application Work Permit and than the visa is pushing the limits.

Ok. Can it be done the same way with a 30 day visa exemption stamp as well?
Robert *******
Yes, if they can meet the requirements.

So they can apply for a WP based on my SETV and then I can apply for it to be converted into a Non-B? Is that correctly understood?

You don't need a visa to attend a job interview. You can just enter on a visa exempt stamp, which will get you in for 30 days. If you successfully get the job you would have to obtain (most likely) a non-B visa somewhere outside Thailand. This can be a neighbouring country
Zack ******
I was told in my tesol class that you don't need a work visa to go to interviews.
