Can I renew my O-A visa from my home country instead of in Thailand?

With all the uncertainly with immigration rules, I would it be possible to go to your home country once a year and get a new O-A visa instead of going to immigration in Thailand? We still have to have the equivalent 800K THB in my home country bank. I was just thinking of having a Thai bank account for my spending money and get my O-A in my home country. Exchange rate is low now.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the feasibility of obtaining a new O-A visa from one's home country rather than renewing it within Thailand. Commenters suggest that while there is uncertainty regarding recognition of foreign bank accounts, individuals can generally attain multiple O-A visas if they meet the requirements. Notably, those seeking to renew may need to be aware of new health insurance regulations that are set to be implemented.

That’s what I did plus it means 2 years from the one O-A visa! No money needed in Thailand either.

However, you may need medical insurance if applying after 1st of July due to a new rule

There's a new rule regarding health insurance for retirement visas in the pipeline.

Garrett, correcting b/s information in a post is not talking down to someone.

people who don't know their ass from their elbow shouldn't offer visa advice ;)

Garrett Greenwald Maybe it was me. I called him out for misinformation and posting without checking sources. Comment rightfully deleted.

I hate it when people spread misinformation willy-nilly, thus causing confusion about serious matters like this.

whoops :O looked like he blocked me. :/

There is nothing in the rules that stop a person from getting an O-A visa every other year, time after time. I know people on their 4th or 5th O-A visa from the same consulate <- meaning they've been getting them for the last 8 to 10 years :)

Meet the requirements, get the visa.

before you comment, I think you need to understand the difference between requirements for a VISA from a thai consulate in another country and requirements for a yearly extension from the immigration office inside the country. :O

For an O-A visa (which you can ONLY get in the country your passport comes from) you can meet the financial requirements by using a bank in your country NOT in thailand

as what Garrett just replied .... the reason they want money in a thai bank is incase you have any issues here being medical or something else so you have funds to pay or be repatriated to home country.....

my understanding is that when getting an o-a visa in your country, you do not need a Thai bank account.
