Can I open a bank account in Bangkok with a Non O visa if my residence is in another city?

Hi, this is a continuation of a previous question I asked about opening up a bank account. Recap: I have a Non O visa on my Italian passport, I am residing in a monastery, the owner/abbess has provided a letter of residency, ID, householder book. I am in the process of getting my Italian ID card translated and notarized so I will have two valid forms of ID from the same country (apparently a French driver’s license does not count because they can’t seem to understand why an Italian would not have an Italian driver’s license). No bank in Nakhon Pathom, where I live, will open a bank account for me. My question: can I open a bank account in Bangkok even if my address is in another city? The visa agency says I can but I’m just double checking all of you. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is asking if it is possible to open a bank account in Bangkok while residing in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, under a Non-O visa. Despite local banks in Nakhon Pathom denying service, they seek confirmation on the advice given by a visa agency that states they can open an account in Bangkok. Responses from the community suggest that it is possible to open an account in a different province, but there may be potential fees and complications associated with managing the account from another location.

I'll preface my response by saying that I'm not living in Thailand, but... from everything I've read in Thailand related groups, I believe that you can open a bank account in any Province in Thailand. The problem though, could be fees and charges from the Bank that you open an account with if you open an account outside your residential Province. I'm obviously not the best person to advise you, but for example, if you opened an account in Bangkok, you would likely pay ATM fees in the Province you live in, even if it's the same Bank.

You mentioned the "agency" said that you can open an account in a different city. Are you referring to an Agent that can help you with such things as Visas, Extension of Stay, opening Bank Accounts? If so, they would be right, but whether they would know, or advise you about any consequences of opening an account outside your 'home' Province, I don't know. Others in the group with experience in these things can correct, or offer further advice on this.

Most banks won't allow opening an account when staying in another province. If you need a Residence Certificate from immigration,it won't work outside your province.

Hi Max, I have been getting mixed replies about this. We shall see. I hope you’re wrong. 😉

My answer is how it's officially supposed to work, not about being right or wrong.

Thank you. That’s very reassuring. I don’t mind paying extra fees. I just need a bank account so I can get my visa extension, which the agency will do.
