How can I apply for a Non-O retirement visa for Thailand after multiple extensions and border runs?

I need solid advice about my current scenario. I arrived in Thailand for the first time in November, got the 60-day stamp then went to immigration and got a 30-day extension. I did a border run to get another 60 days. Then another border run for another 60 days. By the time I finally decided to get a non O retirement visa (90 days + 12 month extension of stay) I realized I didn’t have enough time so am doing one last border run in a few days. Yes I should have done things differently but I failed. I am leaving Thailand in July and returning in October. Do I need to get the non O visa before I leave so I won’t be rejected upon trying to re-enter? Or can I leave then begin the visa process immediately upon coming back in October?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice after expiring visa conditions in Thailand. They originally entered with a 60-day stamp and have extended their stay through multiple border runs. They plan to leave Thailand in July and return in October and want to know if they should apply for a Non-O retirement visa before leaving to avoid potential entry problems upon re-entry.

If your stuck make an appointment at an embassy and show it to the immigration officer on arrival in Thailand and say you have to get paperwork in Thailand then are leaving to get your visa. Then cancel the appointment.

It will give you some time to arrange the appropriate visa organized

Leave Thailand and then apply for a Non O visa website E-visa from your country. After to Thailand 60days+ 30 days extension . And then extension retirement visa for 1 year( if your age more 50+)

why don't you apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa through the e-visa online system of the Thai embassies and consulates, outside of Thailand, or in your home country? It would make many things easier, such as opening a Thai bank account. And it would ensure that you won't be denied entry, in the wake of your recently done multiple visa-exempt entries and extensions

My plan for the past month has been to just pay an agent (I ignore the countless comments such as “why be stupid and waste your money?”).

But if you’re saying that I’m guaranteed to get a non O retirement visa by applying online from the USA then I might go that route. Will my three border runs possibly cause a denial? I cannot risk being rejected so paying an agent in my case is worth it IF necessary. Also, if I apply from the USA am I required to open a Thai bank account and if so is 800,000K baht needed? Thanks.

when you applyfor the Non-Imm-O Visa in the USA, you need to prove that you have got more than 800,000 THB in any bank account anywhere in the World, as long as it is in your sole name. When applying for the 1-year extension, the money must sit in a Thai bank account in your sole name. On the day of application to the 1-year extension, the money must have already seasoned for 2 months in your Thai bank account

I’m grateful for your informative comments. Even after all my research I was hoping there was a way to keep the USD equivalent of 800,000 baht in my home account. True or not, I’ve read instances where getting all your money back out of a Thai account is not easy. 🤷

keeping your money in your home account you could do so in the first two years out of a Non-Imm-O/A visa. Getting your 800,000 THB out of a Thai bank account, if you decide to end the "1_yer extensions" and move on, is no problem at all. You can even get it paid out in cash and exchange back to USD at SuperRich or SiamExchange in Bangkok

Nongnuch Kamdee Thanks again for the info. For personal reasons I have ruled out the O/A visa.

you will require aThai bank account in any case. . . .an agent has no say in what a border official thinks about your previous visa-exempt entries. Some people swear that a booked VIP-Fast Track entry agent helps to secure entry when entering through an airport. What I am saying is: apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa in the USA, enter Thailand on it hassle-free, open the bank account (with help of the agent or without) and transfer a minimum of 800,000 THB onto it as soon as possible. After the money has seasoned for 2 months, apply for the 1-year Extension of Stay based on retirement
