Hi members of TVA, I would like to ask you if it is possible to change type of stay or that is only possible in Bangkok. I have non B visa and now I would like to change for Educational (pursuing degree). Is this possible to be done at Chiang Mai immigration or I need to do abroad, basically repeat whole process for visa application? thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
Changing from a Non-B visa to an Educational visa cannot be done within Thailand; it must be processed abroad. You will need to obtain documentation from your educational institution and then apply for a 90-day Non-ED visa outside of Thailand.

you would get documentation from the place you're studying and go out of the country to get a 90 day Non-ED visa.

they don't convert anything, they are here on a 30 day visa exempt entry OR a 60 day tourist visa entry and then they apply for the Non-Immigrant visa at the immigration office IF their school can supply the documentation. Not every school and not every immigration office can do it.

Most places give you paperwork to leave the country and get a 90 day single entry Non-ED visa at a thai consulate.

Can I do that in Laos or I need to go back in Germany? Why some people successful converted their visas inside of countries?

No, you can not change from one Non Immigrant visa to another Non Immigrant visa inside the country.
